with meeting at cottage
By MRS. E. SUMMERS
Mrs. Jules De Brabandere
was hostess -to the Granton
Women's Institute on
-Tuesday at her new home at
Grand Bend. In the absence
01 the president Mrs Gordon
Dann, Mrs. Hamilton
Hodgins•was in the chair and
opened' the meeting.
-A minute's- silence was
observed ini memory of the
late Mrs. George Wilson who
was a member of long
standing of the Granton W.I
The roll call was answered
with a current event of in-
terest. Mrs. Clarence Lewis
reported on the two bus trips
that were taken during the
summer to Owen Sound and
the Blyth Festival Theatre,
also on the erection of the
'Granton street signs which
was also a W.I. project.
Mrs. H. Hodgins and Mrs.
C. Lewis offered to attend
the training school for the.
J)epartment of Agriculture
and Food course "Spotlight
on Bread. Members will look
for and to receiving this
coulise later as a community
project.
Mrs. Elmer Summers and
Mrs. Elmer Hariton con-
vened the program on the
topic "Education and
Cultural Activities". Mrs.
.Summers gave ' an in-
teresting account of her visit
to the Discovery Train while
it was in Stratford recently
and described how the 14
cars depicted through wax
models. pictures and ar-
tifacts. the whole history of
Canada from prehistoric
man to the present day. - •
Mrs.. Hariton who " had
_visited the Bruce Nuclear
Power Developement at
Douglas Point, with friends
this summer gave a most
interesting report explaining
tha; when people hear the
word nuclear they im-
mediately think of' bombs.
. Through an, article in a
pamphlet put out by the
developement read by Mrs
Hariton an effort is being
made to try- and change this
misconception by explaining
that nuclear energy • may
replace other sources of
domestic power in the
future. Lunch was served by
the hostess, assisted by the
conveners.
Church news
At the United Church Rev.
Elwood Morden conducted
the Sunday worship and took
the theme for • his sermon
from the third verse of the
34th Psalm and entitled it
"Why I ought to go to
Church."
Rev. Morden said that a
young woman in his charge
once told him that she went
to church because the Lord
had done -so much for her
that the least she could do.
was to give Him one hour of
her time on Sunday morning.
1t is through worship that we
are fed spiritually and
instructed in religion. There
is no -man that does not
receive some help- from a
religious service said the
minister even the poor
washerwoman who said "It
is such a relief, after a hard
week's work, to sit in church
and think of nothing. The
church also needs your at-
tendance as an example.
There was a ceremony of
promotion for the different
Sunday School classes, this
is called "Passing through
the Gates, "pupils pass
through miniature gates
placid at .-the' front of the
church to a higher grade and
a- new teacher.
The church was decorated
with a display- of fruits and
Vegetables for a Harvest
Thanksgiving. Two baskets
of flowers were placed in the
church in memory of the late
Gordon Stevenson.

Thanksgiving" at St.
Thomas Anglican Cnurch
