Across the province of Ontario and our nation, in over 300 comrtpnities both large and small, children, indeed all citizens, age en- joying the benefits of a program which provides a network of safety - the Block .Parent Program. 'C - All Block Parents must be screened by the police department before they are allowed to display the familiar red and white Block Parent sign in their window., Children are taught that they rimy run to the - house displaying the sign whenever they are in trouble and need assistance. - Bur Block Parent is • for senior citizens, older children and other adults who 'find thernsell+es in difficulty as well. It is• the desire _of the Ontario Block Parent Executive Committee to make every attempt to have the Block Parent Program introduced to the remaining Ontario communities still without programs. Block Parent is a coin= triunity program .entirely operated by volunteers and the interest and desire for the program must comp from the citizens of the community. The- measure of the need for the Block Parent -Program in your community is not .whether your com- munity has problems with child molestation, assaults, indecent expokures and bullying, but rather what the Block Parent -Program can do for yourcommunity in the future as the. community works as one; citizens, police, -teachers, service clubs municipal govern- ments, to provide safety for all your' citizens, .with every child receiving " basic. common sense instruction on how to deal with strangers, whether that incident may happen in their own .com- munity or when they are visiting or vacationing. The danger to our small coni- munities comes nor -from - within but from outside. There are 125 Block Parent communities in Ontario including our great city giants right down to to our smallest villages.
