• Dear Sir:
Re: the Block Parent
Program.
Across the province of
Ontario and our nation, in
over 300 comrtpnities both
large and small, children,
indeed all citizens, age en-
joying the benefits of a
program which provides a
network of safety - the Block
.Parent Program. 'C -
All Block Parents must be
screened by the police
department before they are
allowed to display the
familiar red and white Block
Parent sign in their window.,
Children are taught that they
rimy run to the - house
displaying the sign whenever
they are in trouble and need
assistance. -
Bur Block Parent is • for
senior citizens, older
children and other adults
who 'find thernsell+es in
difficulty as well.
It is• the desire _of the
Ontario Block Parent
Executive Committee to
make every attempt to have
the Block Parent Program
introduced to the remaining
Ontario communities still
without programs.
Block Parent is a coin=
triunity program .entirely
operated by volunteers and
the interest and desire for
the program must comp
from the citizens of the
community.
The- measure of the need
for the Block Parent
-Program in your community
is not .whether your com-
munity has problems with
child molestation, assaults,
indecent expokures and
bullying, but rather what the
Block Parent -Program can
do for yourcommunity in the
future as the. community
works as one; citizens,
police, -teachers, service
clubs municipal govern-
ments, to provide safety for
all your' citizens, .with every
child receiving " basic.
common sense instruction on
how to deal with strangers,
whether that incident may
happen in their own .com-
munity or when they are
visiting or vacationing. The
danger to our small coni-
munities comes nor -from -
within but from outside.
There are 125 Block Parent
communities in Ontario
including our great city
giants right down to to our
smallest villages. It is
estimated that there are
approximately 65 thousand'
