Couple join church Centralia ladies enjoy outing By MRS. FRED BOWDEN Mrs. Harvey Smith, Mrs. Wm. Elliott and Mrs. W. R. Essery were the conveners for the June meeting of the UCW which took the form of a picnic with Mrs. Fred Penwarden as hostess at her cottage in Grand Bend. A smorgasbord pot luck supper was enjoyed by the 20 ladies in attendance. There was a short business session followed by contests and games. This is an annual event and appreciation was extended to Mrs. Penwarden for her hospitality. Personals Communion was observed during the service in the United Church on Sunday morning and Mr. & Mrs. Wesley Hodgson were welcomed into church mem- bership. Mrs. Marko (the former Mary Ann Stojaspot ) accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Frank Stojaspol, London, were Tuesday callers at the home of Mrs. Lorne Hicks. Mr. & Mrs. Ray Shoebottom attended the Cadick-Hunter wedding in Thorndale on Friday evening. Miss Ada Mitchell was a guest for a few days at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins. On Saturday all were visitors with Mexico priest at Mt. Carmel Father Don Mooney C.S.B. Mexico Missions is enjoying a vacation with his brother Father John Mooney, P.P. here in the village. Mr. Don Dietrich entertained his relatives and friends to an enjoyable evening in his new shed last Saturday night. Mrs. Paul Thompson and children visited for a few days with her parents Mr. & Mrs. Howard Percival and family, Sarnia. Mrs. Betty Steeper and Mrs. Lynda Thompson were joint hostesses at the latter's home Saturday evening for a surprise party to honour Mrs. Jessie Elson before she moves to Cliff Rit- chie's house near Parkhill. Lois Thompson was in charge of games. A beautiful decorated cake and ice cream with a social hour rounded off a very enjoyable evening. Sister St. Paul of St. Marys Hospital London, spent some holidays with Joe and Paul Dietrich, Mr. & Mrs. Clem Boland and Mr. & Mrs. Joe Conlin and families. Mrs. Charles Glavin spent a few days with Mr. & Mrs. Hanlon McDonald and family,Bornish. While there she had a surprise visit with her two brothers Rev. Father Basil Sullivan, C.S.B. of Toronto and Patrick Sullivan, Strathroy. Mrs. Hubert Carey spent last week in London visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Donald Carey and Paul, Mr. & Mrs. Ken Shepherd. Mr. Bill Hodgins, Sarnia spent the past week with his father, Mr. Garnet Hodgins. Mr. & Mrs. Keith Hodgins and family in the Georgetown area and on Sunday with Mr. & Mrs.Don Pickering and family, Hyde Park. Miss Emma Schaab, Elmwood and Miss Margaret Plaskett of Guelph were guests for a few days last week with Mrs. Lorne Hicks. Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Molnar and family of Agincourt were weekend visitors with his parents Mr. & Mrs. S. Molnar. Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Hirtzel, Mr. & Mrs. Karl Keller and family of London, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Hirtzel and family of Exeter spent the weekend at Clam Lake.
