Liz Lagerwerf of RR 8 Parkhill,
a grade five student at
McGillivray Central Public
School successfully broke the
county record in the girls' high
jump competition last Monday at
the County Track and Field
competition held in London.
Competing in the girls9 and 10
year old division, Liz achieved
the new record by jumping a
height of 1.23 meters.
For the first time this year, the
annual competion was divided
into two series. In the "B" series,
McGillivray Central School
placed third with 16 other county

McCallum of Ailsa Craig with an
easy running style placed fourth
in the open 800. Joanne Scott,
another grade eight student of
RR 3 Ailsa Craig, also brought
honours to her school by earning
several ribbons in various
events.
East Williams Memorial public
school placed 11th out of the 16
schools in the "B" series. Grade
eight student, Michael Mathers
placed second in the shot put
competition, while the boys' eight
years and under relay team took
third place.
Terry McLeish of Ailsa Cl'aig
and a grade seven student along
with Robbie deVlugt of Nairn, a
grade three student, stood out in
the events. Terry succeeded in
winning 14 out of a possible 31
points and Robbie won nine
points.
The students first competed in
their own school competitions,
then went on to Glencoe to face
the winners in eight other
schools, before finally taking part
on the county level.
News and views
from Ailsa Craig
Last week we heard rumours
that our local "Co -Op" had been
broken into. However, upon in-
vestigating the story we can
reassure you that Ailsa Craig
remains an holiest, safe village to
reside. There was no break in
whatever-, Manager Finley
McKinley assures us.
Often when the power failures,
the alarm is activated and an
investigation is immediately
necessary to insure all is secure.
This is what most likely began
the false rumours.
