Lucan United Church
"The Message of Pentecost in
Word and Song" was the theme
for Sunday's worship with Rev.
Ewart Madden speaking from
different scriptures read by Mrs.
Ivan Hearn. Mrs. M. H. Hodgins,
Ed Melanson and Stewart
McCallum. The choir, under the
direction of Paul Kight, B.Mus.,
M.A. led in singing the ac-
companying hymns. two of which
were new to the congregation.
There will be no 11:15 a.m.
service in the Lucan Church next
Sunday. to permit all members to
attend Clandeboye Anniversary
and to hear the former minister,
Rev. Wm. Tupling. However, the
Gospel Sing will be held at 8 pan.
in the church.
Confirmation will be held at the
morning service on June 1 and
the Bach Cantata will be
repeated at 7:30 that evening. for
those who missed it or who may
wish to hear it again.
Lucan Anniversary will be•
June 8 at 11:15 with Mr. Evan
McGugan of London. as guest
speaker.
Flowers in the sanctuary were
from the funeral of the late
Donald Buddo and these were
distributed to Lucan patients at
St. Joseph's Hospital and
('raigholme Nursing Home.
Penetocostal Holiness Church
John Armitage lead the
singing in both services.
At the morning service Rev.
Ray Brewster spoke from the
gospel of SI. John saying "When
we know Jesus Christ we can
experience all the blessings of
God".
In the evening Mr. Brewster
spoke from Philippians Chapter
4 telling his congregation that in
order to have constant peace in
our minds, we need to pray ab out
everything with thanksgiving.
The Regular Bible study group
continues each Tuesday evening
at 8:00 p.m. using the hook of
Clewbrews.
A special film Russia today will
be shown in the church. 7:0o p m..
June 8.
A.C.W. monthly meeting
Members of the A.C.W.of Holy
Trinity" met at the home of their
president. Mrs. Frank Hardy. Sr.
on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs.
Clardy opened the meeting with
prayers for Ascension and
Rogation Days and the Roll ('all
was answered by naming birds
and animals mentioned in the
Bible.
Mrs. Donald Degraw gave a
most interesting report of the
Fourth Annual Meeting of the
Diocese of Huron A.C.W. held at
St. James Westminster. London.
Mrs. Lorne Barker read a paper
on the Friendliness of the Church
and a poem "On the Wings of
Prayer".
The annual hale was discussed
and it will be sent in June to
Keewatin Lunch was served by
Mrs. Harold and Mrs. Haney
Hodgins.
Ecumenical meeting at Holy
Trinity Anglican
A Targe number of women and
three gentlemen from the dif-
ferent churches in the com-
munity met at Holy Trinity
Anglican Church, as guests of the
Guild, on Tuesday evening, to
hear Mrs. Donald Black, of
Guelph, Treasurer of the
Interchurch Council which is
responsible for the "World Day of
Prayer" each year. Mrs. Black
reported that women in Canada
raised $117.000 last year which
was allocated to various coun-
tries, where the need was
greatest.
Mrs. Black was the only and
the first delegate from Canada to
attend the Christian Conference
of Asian Women held in Bangkok.

She showed pictures and told of
her visits, by herself and billeted
mainly in native homes, to
Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines,
Hong Kong, Calcutta and
Bombay. Mrs. Black said it was
impossible for her to describe the
terrible scenes travelling from
Calcutta to Bombay and they
were so heart-rending that she
didn't even take pictures.
She told of the "Fellowship of
the Least Coin" started by Asian
women by which money is raised
in the "least coin of the realm,"
with prayer, for various projects. •
Two thousand dollars is coming
to Canada. to assist in main-
taining a half -way house for girls •
in Toronto. Some of the ladies
were interested and will be sent
literature in this connection.

UCW meet
Members of the United Church
Women, met briefly for a
business session prior to at-
tending a meeting with the Guild
of Hol- Trinity Anglican Church
to hear Mrs. Donald Black of
Guelph. speaking of her trip to
the Christian Conference of Asian
Worsen.
Mrs. Ross McRoberts chaired
the meeting and the offer of the
Friendship Unit to cater for Ann
Mohr's wedding on August 1 was
gratefully accepted. It was
suggested that the Evening Unit
he invited to cater for the wed-
ding of Karen Grose on August 9.
Ten dollars was voted to the
Presbyterial project to assist
with a "single-family camp".
Further pians were made for
the "Parade of Wedding Gowns"
with appropriate music and a
display of wedding pictures. with
stories of same. to be held in the
Church on Wednesday. June 4. It
is hoped to have many years
since 1925 represented and
anyone having a wedding gown to
model. or have modelled, is
asked to phone 227-4879. as soon
as possible. Wedding pictures are
to be in the church office as soon
as possible and before Sunday.
June 1. The proceeds will go to a
special Mission & Service
project, assisting two nurses -in -
training in Nepal. to complete
their education.
It was announced that the
Junior Girls' S.S. Class will be
selling anniversary coffee mugs
at 52.00. as an M. & S. project.
TOPS sale success
Due to a couple of bake sales
which netted the Club ap-
proximately $175.00 and due to a
lot of hard work by the members
selling the baked goods, as well
as donating it. we want to say
"thank you" to everyone who
helped in any way.
On Wednesday evening, May 14
a draw was made for the quilt
which was donated, again
through the time and effort of
members and friends and the
winner was Mrs. Mary Coulter,
William Street, Lucan.
Congratulations Mrs. Coulter.
Laureen McKenzie read an
article on dietetic foods and
everyone learned there is nothing
to be gained from buying special
foods, as some have only one
calorie less than the ordinary
variety.
Only three weeks left to P.R.D.
in Ottawa. Keep this in mind.
That's all until after June 7 when
1 hope to have some news of the
Convention. See you "lighter" in
June.
