IRVIN RADER Calvary United Church Women clebrdted their 62nd anniversary, Sunday, May 4 with the ladies in charge. Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan, president, presided. Mrs. Leroy Gowanlock read the scripture. Mrs. Robert Hoffman sang two solos. Mrs. Tieman introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Lloyd Edighoffer, Mitchell, the former Euoleen Guenther, sister of Earl Guenther, born and raised in Dashwood. She based her talk on Women in the church. She associated women in the Bible with women of today. Following Sunday school, the UCW was in charge of a share -a - dish dinner. Bridal showers Mrs. Ethel Masse and Sharon, Carol McCarthy, and Marion Razenberg were hostesses for a miscellaneous shower for Beverly Stire, bride -elect of May, at the home of Mrs. Masse. Games and contests were en- joyed. Beverly was recipient of many lovely gifts for which she thanked everyone. • Susan Vanwyck, bride -elect of • • May, was honored with a miscellaneous shower Sunday, May 4, when Debbie Riddell was hostess at the home of her parents Mr. & Mrs. Jack Riddell. Susan received many lovely gifts for which she thanked everyone and invited them to her trousseau tea, Saturday, May 24. LWML Rally Eight ladies, from Zion Lutheran church attended the Lutheran Women's Missionary League Rally at Tavistock, Monday, May 5. They were Mrs. Delmar Miller, Mrs. Reinhold Miller, Mrs. Ed Nadiger and Helen, Mrs. Arnold Becker, Mrs. Martha Miller, Mrs. Albert Miller and Mrs. Charles Martene. Rev. L. Bugtong, pastor from the Philippines, spoke on his work there and showed pictures. Youth group The Youth Group of Zion Lutheran church have organized and are planning their activities. Officers are:- president, Tom Hayter; vice-president, Vicki Miller; secretary -treasurer, Laurie Becker. They had a bir- thday party for Peter Datars, Sunday, April 27, complete with Clandeboye women hosts for area event By MRS. DAVID KESTLE CLANDE BOYE The Clandeboye WI catered to the District Annual Meeting for 13 branches of North Middlesex, held in Lucan United Church. Registration began at 9:30 a.m. and the opening exercises were lead by the president, Mrs. Otto Zimmerman She introduced the guest minister, Rev. Brewster. He brought the theme "Love thy Neighbour", in keeping with the theme of the convention, "The World — One Neighbour". MrsZimmerman welcomed the ladies. Mrs. M. Watson, Parkhill and Mrs. R. Lewis, Ilderton, gave the "In Memoriam". Mrs. C. Carmichael the federal representative ratified the district directors of the area: Secretary treasurer Mrs. C. Brown, Ilderton read the minutes of the last district annual meeting. The treasurer's report followed. The Auditor's report was read by Mrs. W. Culver, Ilderton. Cot -respondence was read and business dealt with. Women's Institute week will be from June 9 to 16. Rally will be held in D.B. Weldon Park, July 22. Provincial board director Mrs. C. Carmichael gave the report from the provincial board meeting. Resolutions were discussed. Workshops on nutrition, the theme being "Better Nutrition and Planning Family Meals". were stressed. A sing -song was lead by Cloverdale WI. Mrs. M. Hodgins read the resolution about profanity in TV programs which will be read and voted on at a later time. Mrs. Hodgins gave her report on resolutions. An international tea to be held in Lucan church May 30, by Lucan WI. Mrs. Wilson, Tweedsmuir History curator gave her report on all 13 branches. Mrs. Harold Brophey will be the new representative for Tweedsmiur history. Mrs. C. Butler, Ilderton, gave the report of Agriculture and Canadian industries. The Citizenship and World Affairs report was given by Mrs. J. Bycraft, Ilderton. The family and consumer affairs report was given by Mrs. T. VanBrink Strathroy. The public relations report was given by Mrs. J. Dunnelt, St. Marys. Noon luncheon was served by the Clandeboye ladies. The slate of officers was presented by Carol Ferguson, Home Economist. Pennies for friendship were donated and Huron members picked for trip Six senior 441 club members from Huron County will be travelling to Brooks, Alberta this summer on an exchange with 441 club members in that province. They are Joan Pym, RR 1 Centralia, Bill Armstrong, RR 4 Wingham, Donna Hackett RR 7, Lucknow, Jim Nivins, RR 3 Auburn, George Thompson, RR 2 Clinton and Susan Tyndall, RR 4 Clinton. Zurich, Exeter capture honors In a Friday elementary school volleyball tournament, St. Boniface of Zurich won the girls championship and Exeter public school emerged as winners in the boys division. St. Boniface edged Zurich and Exeter won over Stephen Central in the final by scores of 15-11 and 15-13. Carol Ferguson gave her report. Mrs. Lockyer gave the report of Federation of Agriculture in the absence of Mrs. C. Robb. Mrs. Ron Crozier gave the report for Family and Children Services. Farm Safety Council representative, Mrs. N. Tate, reported. Mrs. Roloston reported for War Memorial Hospital. In closing Beechwood WI in- vited the area ladies to their institute meetings. The new area president, Mrs. M. Watson, Parkhill spoke. Mrs. Zim- merman thanked her. Personals Debbie Lynn who was an ex- change student to Quebec several weeks ago, has her exchange friend from Quebec residing at the Lynn home for the week. David Simpson was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Monday and is un- dergoing tests there. Mrs. Wm. Simpson received word of the death of a cousin Jack Webb, Calgary Alberta. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Eaton/have been hospitalized Mrs. Evans is in St. Joseph's Hospital and Gordon in University, both in London Student runs for top spot By MRS. ROBERT LAING CROMARTY The May meeting of Cromarty WMS was held at the home of Mrs. Thos. L. Scott. Mrs. Grace Scott, presiding, opened the meeting with a poem. The Hymn, Our Joy, was sung. The scripture lesson, Hebrews 6: 1-20 was read in unison followed by prayer. Mrs. Calder McKaig received and dedicated the offering. The third chapter of the study book, Rural Routes, was presented by Mrs. Mervin Dow, assisted by Mrs. M. Lamond, Mrs. McKaig, Mrs. J. Jefferson, and Mrs. T.L. Scott. The topic, In the Land of the North, was taken by Mrs. Jefferson. Seven members answered the roll call, Life. A special number, pictures on a Health Project, was presented by everyone. Hymn 141, We Plough the Fields and Scatter, was sung and Mrs. Thos. Scott closed the meeting with prayer. Persona Is Paul Parsons, whose eighth birthday was on Saturday, and his sister, Tracey, whose sixth birthday is on Friday, celebrated with a joint party on Saturday afternoon. Their guests included Karen Weikle, Jerry Budd, Patty Budd, Paula Robson, Tom Laing, and Sherri Cooper. Ruth McPhail, Lorraine Laing, and Margaret Laing spent Friday in Hamilton. The Mitchell Glee Club, of which they are members, presented a concert in the John A. MacDonald. Auditorium. Also featured was the Westdale Concert Band of Hamilton. The same group sang Sunday evening and Monday in the Blenheim and Chatham area. Congratulations to Elmer Dow who won a pen and pencil set as the most improved bowler of the nine o'clock league in the 1974-5 season Mr. & Mrs. Calder McKaig, Mr. & Mrs. Thos Scott, and Mrs. Grace Scott, attended a gathering in Atwood Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening where Margaret Ken- nedy showed slides and spoke on India, where she is a missionary. Bonnie McPhail had the honour of being elected as a contestant for the position of Head Girl in Mitchell District High School. I birthday cake.
