Girls receive honours Crediton WI elect new slate By MISS ELLA MORLOCK Wednesday evening April 16 the Annual Meeting of the Women's Institute was held in the Community Hall. Mrs. Donald Davey was in charge of the program. Barbara Morrissey contributed ballet dance numbers, Bevin and Janet Shapton a vocal duet. A skit "Pennies for Friendship" was performed by, Mrs. John Morrissey, Mrs. Bruce Shapton, Mrs. Ed Nethercott and Mrs. Donald Davey. Conveners of committees gave their reports. It was decided to cater for the Stephen Central School banquet. Mrs. Cliff Kenney was appointed to attend the Officers' Conference in Waterloo April 30 and May 1. The District Annual in Dashwood May 15 was announced. Mrs. Kenney presented a life membership pin to Mrs. Lorne Hodge in recognition of 25 years of service to the Institute. Roll Call was answered by the payment of dues. Mrs. Hodge chaired the elec- tion of officers for the next year. Special singing Sunday at Zion United Church Calvin Fahrner and a singing group of men and women, the Angelos, from Toronto conducted the morning service. Mr. Fahrner led the service and told the childrn's story. The Angelos sang several numbers; then one of the men of the group brought a message on the con- version of Saul. Leaders of the UCW Work Groups prepared a noon meal for the guests before they returned to Toronto. Mr. & Mrs. Emmery Fahrner were also guests at the meal. 4-H achievement Saturday was AchievementDay for the five local 4-H clubs. The afternoon program at Stephen Central School was open to the public. The girls provided an exhibit and skits, with Kathy Willard, Helen Muller and Mona Hodgins as commentators. Leader Mrs. Cliff Kenney received a canadian council leadership award for ten years of faithful service. County honours were presented to Marilyn Pfaff, Mary Ellen Schlenker, Barbara Wein, Pauline Gielen, Marian Martens, Ann Dearing, Kathy Willard, Donna Wilson, Elizabeth Pert- schy, Cathy Fleming. Provincial honours were presented to Mrs. Ed Nethercott. Ann Pertschy, Linda Fleming Persona Is Lorne Finkbeiner has returned home from St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. & Mrs. (Eunice Haist) Frank Dutertre of Dinsmore, Saskatchewan visited relatives in the area Sunday. Mr. & Mrs. Will Oestricher spent the weekend in Windsor with Mr. & Mrs. Ed French, Mattie and Clara Oestricher. Sunday there was a Smith family reunion at the home of Mrs. Clayton Sims. Mrs. William Smith's birthday was celebrated. Relatives from Walkerton could not come because of flooding in that area. Mr. & Mrs. Reg Finkbeiner and Michael attended the christening ceremony for the son of Mr. & Mrs. Ron Cass in the Presbyterian church, Muirkirk, Sunday. Ron is a brother of Mrs. Finkbeiner. Len Rivett, security guard at Dashwood Industries found an injured loon in the parking lot Saturday. He brought it home in his truck to care for it. The Department of Lands and Forest, Wingham, was notifed and the bird given sanctuary at Tony Martens. Monday a representative of the Department came to Crediton and took "Lester" away.
