officials agree on success
The Jets manager who has His son Wayne, now nine years
indicated he will be retiring from
the position said his club's ex-
penses this year will be about
$15,000 while the Barrie bankroll
will likely exceed $50,000.
The Jets operate on a share -
the -wealth basis and Urbshott
has said each players share this
year could be between $250 and
$300.
To indicate the strength of the
Barrie club, former Toronto
Maple Leaf Darryl Sly is the
playing coach and the goal tender
is Grant Cole. During the 1973-74
season Cole was the regular net
minder for Oklahoma City in the
Central league while his backup
was Gord McRae now with the
Toronto Maple Leafs.
Most of the Barrie players hold
down regular jobs in addition to
their hockey activities. Playing
coach'Darryl Sly is vice-principal
of the school in Collingwood.
Urbshott agreed saying "We When talking about his
had just a great year. It was a retirement as manager of the
great experience to play a club Jets, Urbshott leaves the door
like Barrie made up of almost open by saying, "I wouldn't mind
entirely ex -professionals. We continuing in a lesser capacity,
can't afford to pay our players possibly as the contact man for
like they do." the OHA."
The season ended abruptly for
the Lucan-Ilderton Jets as they
dropped four straight games to
the Barrie Flyers, but team of-
ficials are very happy with the
team's performance.
After winning the Ontario
Hockey Association Continental
Senior championship, the Jets
challenged the Barrie Flyers in
Allan Cup competition. The
Flyers downed the Jets 5-3 in
Ilderton Wednesday night and
wrapped things up by a 6-2 count
in Barrie, Saturday.
Jets manager Don Urbshott
and playing coach Jack Nairn
agreed their club had enjoyed a
successful season and completed
the job they set out to do.
J
Nairn said, "We didn't build
our team to win the Allan Cup.
We were aiming at the Con-
tinental Senior championship and
that's what we accomplished."

the Jets in the series with three
markers counted for his club and
Bob Baird replied for the Flyers.

Meeting for
ball players
Anyone in the Exeter area
wishing to play fastball or slo-
pitch this summer are asked to
attend a meeting at the Exeter
Public School library on Thur-
sday. May 1 at 8 p.m.
Rec director Jim McKinlay has
called the meeting to determine
the number of men or boys in-
terested in participating.
McKinlay said -' he needs a
minimum of four teams to
operate a fastball league. Teams
or individuals wishing to compete
are asked to contact McKinlay or
attend the meeting.
The organization of slo-pitch
will depend on the number of
interested persons. If enough
interest for a local league is not
shown a team or teams could join
the Usborne league which proved
very popular a year ago.
Slo-pitch is designed to allow
men over the age of 30 years to
participate in a game which is not
quite as physical as regular
fastball.

period.
Dick Doughty completed a
three-way effort with Rick Fifield
and Bill White for the opening
Jet score and Jamie Robb clicked
with passing help from Jim Blake
and Jeff Craig.
In the second session, the
scoring procedure was reversed
with Barrie taking a 2-1 ad-
vantage. Pete Loveless was the
lone successful shooter for the
Jets while Paul Regan and Corby
Adams hit for Barrie.
In the third period, Bob
Monteith and Paul Regan tallied
for the Flyers to wrap up the
victory.
I)on Urbshott's final comment
was. "Our goal tending was super
in the last two series. Lorne Daer
was terrific against Stratford and
Sonny Pennington was great in the -
final against Barrie."

Notice to
Osborne Township Residents
The Exeter Public Utilities Commission has been test drilling in various
areas of the Township in order to supplement water supply for customers of
this Utility. The water customers reside in Usborne, Stephen and Hay
Townships as well as in the Town of Exeter.
There is concern among some residents that a well in their area will
deplete the water supply.
Where possible, our Utility has been able to personally contact in-
dividual owners and explain the method of solving the problem, but it is im-
possible to contact each one, so this notice will explain the procedure which
will be identical to that taken in 1960 when the last well was constructed.
(a) When an adequate supply has been located test pumping will take
place.
(b) During test pumping permission will be sought from the owners in prox-
imity to the test pumping site td monitor their individual well levels during
the test.
(c) The results of this testing will be sent to the Ministry of the Environment
with a request to advise the Utility of any wells that will be adversely
affected by pumping. A copy can also be sent to Usborne Township
Council
(d) Discussion between any affected owner and the Utility will take place
with two options available:
•
(1) The Utility to pipe water from the new pipeline to the affected farm
and supply water at no charge.
(2) The Utility would be responsible for either deepening the farm well
or installing a new well. In the case of the municipal well installed in
1960 two wells were dug for area farmers and connected to their
pressure systems with the Utility bearing all of the expense.
Every well owner in Ontario, regardless whether they are form wells
or municipalities, are adequately protected by law due to prior rights.
It is only the surplus water that the Town of Exeter would take only
after assuring that all farms that may be affected are adequately provided
for.
This subject has been discussed with Usborne Township Council who
has taken steps to ensure protection of Usborne residents before permission
was given to the Exeter Public Utilities Commission to test drill.
We would reassure all of the residents that the' same policies as in
past will be maintained and all existing supplies will be protected or water
will be provided to replace those affected.
We hope this information will relieve the concerns of farmers near the
test areas. •
