Their years of service in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority was honoured.Fromleft, Pat Fletcher has been a member for 15 years, Donna • Jones for 25 years, and Rosemary Schaefer for 15 years. THOMAS GORDON'S "Parent Effectiveness Training Program" There will be 8 sessions of 3 hours eci t, beginning on Thursday, April 24 7:30 p.m. The program director is Mrs. Pat Stibbards. The course fee is 540.00 (575.00 per couple); the fee includes the textbook and workbook. The program is highly recommended. Interested persons should register at the school by telephone or in person. J L WOODEN, Principal Candy striper program in the works at SHH A candy striper program is being organized at South Huron Hospital. At the regular meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary of SHH. Mrs. Louise Snell and Mrs. Ada Dinney agreed to volunteer their services to organize the program. Speaking at the meeting on April 8, SHH nursing supervisor Charlanne English told about candy stripers. and how they can help older patients with trays, -and drinks. - - The annual spring rummage sale„ postponed because of the April snow storm, will be held. in the Exeter arena May 29-30. it was announced at the meeting. The auxiliary members voted to buy a duplicating machine and an electronic calculator for the hospital office. A film and tape at the meeting told of hospital volunteer ser- vices. Forest April 28. Sorority members are honored for service The prestigious "Girl of the Year" award was presented Tuesday to two members of the Bela Sigma Phi sorority. 6 Elaine Bogart of Xi Gamma Nu and Sharon O'Toole of Alpha Pi were the recipients of the honor. The award is presented an- nually to one member of each chapter of the international sorority who has contributed most to her respective chapter in the past year. In the past• year, both Mrs. O'Toole and Mrs. Bogart were presidents of their chapters. All sorority members are eligible for the award. They were presented to this year's winners by honorary members Mrs. Ada Dinney and Mrs. Lillian Camp- bell A pin. signifying 25 years of active service in Beta Sigma Phi was awarded at the Founder's Dai celebrations to Donna Jones. She joined the sorority in 1951 and was president in 1956-57. She was the sorority sweetheart in 1952. When Xi Gamma Nu was formed. Donna held the office of vice-president. She received the Order of the Rose in 1967. . Two other local women were honored for long service in Exeter sorority. work. and received the Order of the Rose for 15 C('ars of service. Pat Fletcher joined the sorority in 196o. She was president in 1964- 65. anti sorority sweetheart in 1965. In her years in the sorority • she has worked on all committees and held every office on the executive .of the Alpha Pi chapter. In 1970 when Xi Gamma Nu was formed Pat joined the new chapter arid has been most active.' Rosemary Schaefer joined in 196o and was president in 1965-66. She Was Aveetheart in 1966. She held the office of president of Xi Gamna Nu in 1971-72. and has worked on the cultural com- mittee. Another highlight of the evening was the- honoring of five who received their Ritual of Jewels. -They are Dorcas Wein, Claudette Taylor, Penny Dinney, 4' MR. AND MRS GARRY GIBSON In the Exeter United Church, on Friday, March 21, Joanne Marie Ten- nant and Garry Thomas Gibson were united in marriage by Rev. Glen Wright. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Tennant, of Exeter. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gibson, Crediton. After a honeymoon to Niagara Falls, the couple are residing of RR 1 Exeter. The awards, part of the Founder's Day celebrations, were held at the Exeter Curling Club. Fifty sorority members from the two local chapters renewed their pledges and reviewed their year's activities. Prayers for MS disease Canadian Council of Churches has declared Sunday May 18 as , National Day of Prayer for Multiple Sclerosis. On this day churches across Canada will join in prayer and • - special services for the desease that cripples an estimated 25,000 Canadians, (n support of the day of prayer, churches are asked to contact local chapters of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada for special Sunday programs printed and provided free of charge. . Educational material is also a\ailable from the chapters. Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system. As yet. there is no cure. It is a chronic, often progressive disease, that frequently makes its first appearance in adults between the ages of 20 and 40. In addition to being a day of prayer, May 18 falls within the month from Mother's Day to Father's Day set aside for the Society's annual educational and financial campaign. due' YO de€6 Mrs. Mary Cornish, of 298 Andrew St., Exeter, will celebrate her 85th birthday on Friday, April 18.
