Perths win 7-4, Tuesday
Jets ahead in Continental senior final
Three consecutive goals in the
third period by ?aur' Boudreau
gave the Stratford Perths a 7.4 -
victory over the Lucan-Ilderton
Jets, Tyesday night in Stratford.
The win, the first for the Perths
in the Ontario Hockey
Association Senior Coritinental
final round kept .their playoff
hopes alive after the Jets won the
first three games.
The Jets won the third game of
the series 5-3 in Ilderton Wed-
nesday.
The -fifth game of the series was
played in Ilderton last night,:
Wednesday. If a sixth game is
necessary it will be back in
StiVford, Friday night at 8.15
p.m. • -
If the series goes the limit the
seventh and deciding game would
take place at the Ilderton arena,
Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. •
The Jets were able to battle
back from a 3-1 deficit at (he end
.of 'the first period to get on even
terms at 4-4 after 40 minutes ,of
play but Boudreau salted the
Stratford victory away in the
final session.
Penalties played a big part in
•the scoring. The only L-1 marker
of the first period came at 11.46,
Barry Baynham drilled a low
shot into the net from near the
blue -line. Charlie Robertson of
the Perths was off at the time
serving the second of two minor
penalties.
The second Stratford score by
Ron Scholl came at 17.42 of the
first frame with Jack Nairn and
Bill Fairbairn of the Jets resting
in' the penalty box: Immediately
after Scholl's goal•Fairbairn was
given a game, misconduct by
referee Wayne.IIarshall.
Mike Guimopd opened the.
game 'scaring- for the Perths at
2.10 of the first period and Mark
Daoust hit with a successful shot
with only 50 seconds leftin. the
first 20 minutes.
The Jets got back in the run-
ning`at 4.44 9f the second -period
when Jack Nairn stole the puck at
the Stratford blue -line and hit
Doug Galloway with a -good pass
close to the net and the veteran
captain made no mistake in
depositing the_puckbehind Perth
netrninder Ken Hyde.
At the 10.59 mark, the Jets got
back on even terms with the
opposition when Barry Baynham
let a shot go from the point. The
pack was deflected several times
add hit Jack Nairn's stick in front
and bounced- into the net.
The Perths moved ahead
again, this time 4-2 only two.
minutes later on a seemingly
harmless long shot by Terry
Uniac which evaded Lorne Daer
In the L-1 goal..
The Jet took advantage of two
major penalties to Peter
Palenczny .at 14.10. Bill - White
picked up one five minute penalty
at the same time.
Jim Blake finished off a neat
three-way passing effort with
Jamie Robb and Barry Baynham
to square matters on the
scoreboard with three minutes
left in the period.
Dick Doughty was sent off at
19.38 of the second session and the
'Jets were still playing •a man
short when Paul Boudreau fired
the eventual_
the winning goal at 1.26
of third frame.
Boudreau'ssecondgoal at 13.11
pretty well took Ute steam out of
the Jets Scoring attack and he'
added another with only a few
seconds remaining.
Despite a total of 11 gta}ls, both
netminders - Lorne Daer of the
Jets and Stratford's Ken Hyde
played well coming up with many
key stops as defences lapsed at
times..
Five goals in the first period
and solid goal tending by Lorne:.
Daer allowed the Jets to take the
third game on Ilderton ice •
Wednesday night by a score of 5-
3.. •
Thegame was only 59 seconds
old when Jim Blake hit the mark
for the Jets on a two way effort
with Jacques Cousineau and Jeff
Craig.
At 7.01 it was Jeff Craig's turn
to fire a ,successful shot on a
power play with Rick Fifield and
Jack Nairn assisting.
The L4 lead went to 3-0 nearL
the halfway mark when Steve
Proctor beat Ken Hyde in the
Stratford net. Proctor took a
swing al a flying rebound and
connected about knee high with
the puck and it went directly into
the goal • •
In the next minute each team
was able to score one goal and the
Jets maintained their three goal
margin on the scoreboard.
Mark Daoust was the Perths
marksman on a power play with
Jeff tiraig of the Jets. resting in
the pehalty box.
The f irth'goal of the contest
for the Jets again came from the
stick of Jim Blake as he was in
the right spot in front of the
Stratford net . to bang tin Jamie
Robb's rebound. Jacques
Cousineau also assisted,
With less' than tw9 minutes
remaining in the opening session,
playing Jk Nairn completed a
three-way'Combination' with
Steve Proctor and Doug
Galloway. -
The second .period was
scoreless and. John St: Cyr and
Ken Hishon f1rea goals for
Stratford in the third period.
The winner of =the• Jets -
Stratford series will meet either
the Barrie Flyers or Brantford
Flyers in the first round of
playdowns leading to the Allan
Cup. Barrie leads the best -of -
seven series two games to one.
The fourth game was played last
night, Wednesday.
