T -A photo Jets host, Stratford Senior finals start y The Lucan-Ilderton Jets will be at home at the Ilderton arena Friday night at 8 p.m. to meet the Stratford Perths in the first game of the Ontario Hockey Association Continental senior league finals. The second game of the best -of - seven series will be played in Stratford Sunday afternoon at 2 p.rn. with the third back in Ilderton Wednesday night, April 2 at 8.30 p.nl. The fourth game will - he in Stratford April 4 at 8.30 with a fifth if necessary in Ilderton Sunday. April 6 at 2 p.m. The Jets reached the final round by disposing of the New Hamburg Screaming Eagles four games to two while Stratford eliminated Preston in four games. Victories by scores of 7-4 Friday in Ilderton and 3-2 in New Hamburg Sunday allowed the Jets to,send 4he Screaming Eagles tthe sidelines. Good netminding An excellent performance by goalie Ken Kitching was responsible for the Jejs 3-2 win, Sunday. Kitching who finished the season with the Woodstock Royals was acquired by the Jets a few weeks ago when Sonny Pennington, one of the L -I net- -minders was injured. It is expected Kitching and Lorne Daer will share duties in the nets at least for the first couple of Stratford games until Pennington recovers from a knee injury. The Jets scored all three goals Sunday in the second half of the game. Roger Kropf'of the Eagles notched the only goal of the first period. Steve Proctor evened the score at 10.52 of the second when he ,completed a passing play with Doug Galloway and Terry Johnson. Less than four minutes later Rick Fifield put the Jets ahead to stayas he deflected ashot by Dick Doughty. Bill White also assisted. Each team scored a goal in the final frame. Playing coach Jack Nairn was the L -I marksman on passes from Doug Galloway and Barry Baynham. Darrell Graham replied for New Ham- burg. - Fifield bags five The league's leading scorer, Rick Fifield of the Jets showed Friday night that he hadn't lost any of his scoring prowess. Fifield fired two successful shots in each of the first two pefliods and added another in the final 20 minutes of play. He hit Zurich takes opener in South Huron final The Zurich Flyers have taken a one game lead in the South Huron intermediate hockey league finals -with a-7-3 victory over the Shipka Colonials in Zurich, Tuesday night. The second game of the series will he played tonight, Thursday al 9 p.rn. with the third Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. and the fourth Tuesday night at 9 p.m. All games will be played .at the Zurich arena. The Colonials reached the final round with a 10-2 Thursday to even the series at three games apiece. Glen Overholt went on a four goal scoring spree to lead the Zurich win in the opener against Shipka. Pat Bedard was next in line with a two goal effort and Kevin McKinnon fired one suc- cessful shot. Scoring in single fashion for the Colonials were Peter Gill, Larry Laye and Peter Gil . Third period scoring spree The. Colonials scoring power didn't show on the scoreboard in Sunday's decisive win over Centralia in the deciding game of the series until the third period. With the Colonials holding a 3-1 lead going into the third period Bill Hoffman scored three goals in three minutes and 40 seconds to clinch the victory. Bill Hoffman led the Colonials with a four goal performance and added one assist. 'Scoring in single fashion were Jim Hoff- man, Bill Bowden, Peter Gill. Local atoms win twice The Exeter atom house league all stars came up with two wins in three starts in a Lake Huron Zone atom tournament in Hanover last :week. The locals opened the tourney with a 2-0 victory over Hanover followed with an overtime win over Kincardine by a S-4 score and dropped a 3-0 decision to Walkerton in the '•B cham- pionship final. In the opening game win, Walter van Essen notched the first Exeter marker on a pass from Matthew Tuckey and Jamie Chaffe hit on a three -may effort . with Steve Riddell and Brian -Denomme. The overtime win over Kin- cardine came on a penalty shot showdown after the teams bat- tled to a 3-3 tie in regulation play. Steve Riddell and Jamie Chaffe. scored for xeter on simultaneous petillty shots and only one Kincardine performer could connect.
