Veteran hospital employee
plans for active retirement
A retirement party was held
recently for Mrs. Carl (Hilda)
Payne, RN of Seaforth Com-
munity Hospital.
Mrs. Payne came to Canada in
1946 and was on the staff of South
Huron Hospital, Exeter for two
years.
For nearly 19 years she was
employed at Scott Memorial
Hospital and Seaforth - Com-
munity Hospital on a full and
part-time basis.
At the time of her retirement
.she was evening' supervisor at
Seaforth hospital.
Mrs. Payne received her
nurse's training at University
College Hospital, London,
England, Queen Mary's hospital
for Sick Children; Carshalton,
Surrey, England and obstetrical
training at St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, Ontario.
She says.she now plans to spend
more time in Women's Institute
work at Hensall United Church,
and more time with music.
She was presented with a
barometer and flowers from the
Seaforth hospital staff.

from the Past Grand's of Pride of
Huron Lodge, Exeter, to be their
guests at a meeting in the Exeter
Lodge on April 10 at 8 p.m. All
past grand's of Amber Lodge are
cordially invited.
The members-arerequested to
open and close the Lodge meeting
on April 15 in Brussels following
the banquet in the church at 6:45
p.m.
Pride of ' Huron, Exeter,
members are travelling by bus
and members of Amber are in-
vited to travel in their company.
The time to be announced later.
The Past Grand's are invited to
the district meeting in Brussels
on Wednesday, April 9.
Mrs. Leona Parke and Mrs.
Aldeen Volland expressed sin-
cere thanks for cards received in
their recent bereavement.
Birthday greetings were ex-
tended to Mrs. Hazel Corbett. The
treasurer Mrs. Dorothy Corbett
reported the financial statement.

Three area deaths resided
A telephone call from Holland
informed Mrs. Sim Roobal of the
death of her father Mr. C.
Gelderland, who has made his
home with his eldest daughter for
the past seven years. Mr.
Gelderland leaves one daughter
Mrs. K. Lagerwerf, two -grand-
children and five great-
grandchildren in Holland, his son
Anthony Gelderland, one
grandson Ronald, and three
great-grandchildren in
Ridgetown; and a daughter Mrs.
Sim/ Roobal of Hensall, one
grand -daughter Mrs. Don Dodds
of Seaforth and three great
grandchildren of Seaforth. Mr.
Gelderland was in his 92nd year
and has been a widower for 62
years.
Derwood F. Windover
At his residence in Hensall on
Sunday, March 23, Derwood F.
Windover in his 68th year.
He was the husband of the
former Marjorie G. Cowan. Also
surviving are his father Merkley
Windover of Belleville, and one
brother Everett Windover of
Frankfort, Ontario.
Mr. Windover rested at the
Bonthron Funeral Chapel in
Hensall where funeral service
took place on Tuesday, March 25
with Rev. G.A. Anderson of St.
Pail's Anglican Church of-
ficiating. Interment was i

MRS. IRMA HARRIS
Mrs. Irma Harris, the former
Irma Rannie of Hensall passed
away at the Queensway Nursing
Home on Wednesday March 19 in
her 79th year. Widow of the late
Howard Harris sheds survived by
a brother Sam Rannie Hensall
and several nieces and nephews.

at a later date in Ingersoll Rural
Cemetery.

attended the Newcastle Figure
Skating Club carnival when
Shelley, daughter of Mr. & Mrs.
Brown and granddaughter of Mrs.
Ruth Taylor was a prominent
performer in the program.
Steve Corbett returned home
-from a pleasant vacation in Cuba
during the Easter holiday break.

Guest speaks of Leprosy Mission
Rev. W. D. Jarvis was in
charge of the service in Carmel
Presbyterian Church on Sunday.
The guest minister, Rev. L. G.
Stairs. representing the
Canadian Leprosy Mission, spoke
briefly an showed pictures on
the work of the mission.
The flowers were placed in the
church in memory of the late
Mrs. Irma Harris.
Lady scores perfect hand

Mrs. Robert Middleton, while
playing a game of cribbage with
her husband recently held a count
of 29, which is a perfect hand.
There is no bigger count in
cribbage and this rarely occurs.
