Phone 679-6404 Resort asks for earlier municipal election day Grand Bend council will be suggesting to the Ontario govern- ment that municipal elections be held earlier than the present first Monday in December. Resort council members lean- ed to having an advance poll on the Saturdaybefore Thanksgiv- ing which allw many ratepayers to cast their ballot when in Grand Bend to close up their summer residences for the year. An election would then be held the Monday following Thanksgiv- ing with the new council taking over their positions on November 1 of any election year. Reeve Bob Sharen told council that according to latest informa- tion from the Ontario Ministry of Treasury and Economics Grand Bend did not qualify for any . resource equalization grant. Sharen said although the village's permanent population used for grant purposes has been increased to 1,094 the assess- ment per capita is 110,695. Only municipalities with average assessments of less than $10,000 are eligible for resource grants. Park may use dump Two representatives of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources were at Monday's meeting trying to obtain use of the Grand Bend waste disposal site for use by the Pinery provin- cial park. Ralph Chornopski and Keith Cameron said the present dump facility in the park is filling quickly and another site would be needed in a year or two. Considerable work has been carried out in the past few weeks in cutting trees and filling with clay. The two parties will meet again on July 21 to consider an agreement for joint use of the dump facility in 1976. Chornopski said, "the key criteria in entering into an agreement is approval of the En- vironment Ministry." Keith Cameron who was the first Pinery Park superintendent in 1957 'and now a parks super- visor said an agreement with Grand Bend would be ideal. He added "Now at the Pinery we have to rent a bulldozer for daily covering of waste material." To discuss dogs Area councils will be invited to a special meeting on April 2 to discuss the current dog situation and also to consider some combined efforts in the matter of waste disposal. Ross Knight, of the London Humane Society, will be invited to attend the meeting to discuss dog control. Other councils which have expressed an interest in at- tending are Stephen, Hensall, Zurich and Grand Bend.
