Resort asks for earlier
municipal election day
Grand Bend council will be
suggesting to the Ontario govern-
ment that municipal elections be
held earlier than the present first
Monday in December.
Resort council members lean-
ed to having an advance poll on
the Saturdaybefore Thanksgiv-
ing which allw many ratepayers
to cast their ballot when in
Grand Bend to close up their
summer residences for the year.
An election would then be held
the Monday following Thanksgiv-
ing with the new council taking
over their positions on
November 1 of any election year.
Reeve Bob Sharen told council
that according to latest informa-
tion from the Ontario Ministry of
Treasury and Economics Grand
Bend did not qualify for any
. resource equalization grant.
Sharen said although the
village's permanent population
used for grant purposes has been
increased to 1,094 the assess-
ment per capita is 110,695. Only
municipalities with average
assessments of less than $10,000
are eligible for resource grants.
Park may use dump
Two representatives of the
Ontario Ministry of Natural
Resources were at Monday's
meeting trying to obtain use of
the Grand Bend waste disposal
site for use by the Pinery provin-
cial park.
Ralph Chornopski and Keith
Cameron said the present dump
facility in the park is filling
quickly and another site would be
needed in a year or two.

Council expects to receive per-
mission from the Ministry of the
Environment to reopen the
waste disposal site located in
Bosanquet township a few miles
south of the village.
Considerable work has been
carried out in the past few weeks
in cutting trees and filling with
clay.
The two parties will meet
again on July 21 to consider an
agreement for joint use of the
dump facility in 1976.
Chornopski said, "the key
criteria in entering into an
agreement is approval of the En-
vironment Ministry."
Keith Cameron who was the
first Pinery Park superintendent
in 1957 'and now a parks super-
visor said an agreement with
Grand Bend would be ideal. He
added "Now at the Pinery we
have to rent a bulldozer for daily
covering of waste material."
To discuss dogs
Area councils will be invited to
a special meeting on April 2 to
discuss the current dog situation
and also to consider some
combined efforts in the matter of
waste disposal.
Ross Knight, of the London
Humane Society, will be invited
to attend the meeting to discuss
dog control.
Other councils which have
expressed an interest in at-
tending are Stephen, Hensall,
Zurich and Grand Bend.
