T -A photo UC ladies meet Orpha club plans pot luck supper TNe Orpha Club met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Louise Wilson with 21 attending. A short history of the Orpha club and its progress since founding in October 1955, was prepared by Valerie Burke, and read by Aileeen Ravelle. The travelling prize was donated by Aileen Ravelle and was won by Irene Kennedy. Plans were made for the pot luck supper which will be held at the end of April. All articles of clothing and toys will be handed in for Lambkin County Childreris Aid at Sarnia. The next meeting will be April 1 at Irene Kennedy's home. Lunch hostesses were Kay Thompson and Marty Ginn. Easter united theme Eighteen ladies attended the afternoon UC unit meeting held in the church Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Olive Miller President was in charge of the worship service. She opened by having us all repeat the "Purpose" of UC women, and she sang a solo, "When 1 survey the wondrous cross", accompanied on piano by Mrs. C. Reeves. Mrs. Miller read a story on the resurrection, with all members taking part by lighting a candle from a central burning one, and placing it. Mrs. Joan Eagleson, 'president of the general executive, told us of the "banner competition" and the anniversary hymn, in con- nection with 50 years of church union. Roll call was to name a lady of special interest from the Bible and a short message about her. Lunch hostesses were Mrs. S. Durie and Mrs. J. Orr. Mrs. Raymond Kading read the Easter Bible story. Hymn 105; Jesus Christ is risen today, completed this part of the program. Lenten services held Special Lenten Services were held on the weekend in the Grand Bend, Greenway and Thedford parishes. The theme of the services this year was "Faith Lift". Members of the mission team conducting these services included, Rev. Stan Jay, Rev. Michael Farr, Mr. & Mrs. Don Watkins, Harry Johnston, George Johnson, Laurie Brescacin, Jean Harris and Mrs. Evelyn Harris. They came from Aylmer, St. Thomas, Tillsonburg and Culloden. Shipka Euchre winners Five tables of euchre were in play Wednesday evening at Shipka Community Centre. Winners were:- ladies' high, Mrs. Angeline Scott; ladies' low, Mrs. Colin Love; mens' high, Wray Sweitzer; men's low, J. Finkbeiner; most lone hands, Bill Rammeloo. The south group were in charge of refreshments. 4-H groups meet The Grand Bend 4-H club girls held their fifth meeting last week. Roll call was "My suggestions for our Achievement Day exhibit or demonstration." Stay stitching and button hole stitch was demonstrated to the girls and they also tried on their blouses. The "Sewing Sunsets" also had a book check up. Personals A largely attended auction sale of farm machinery was held Saturday afternoon at the farm of Mr. & Mrs. Marcel Hullebusch. Mr. & Mrs. Roy- Young of Toronto, spent the weekend here with her father, Murray Reid, and also visited her mother Mrs• Reid who is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Gibbard aged 64 passed away at his home on March 11 as a result of a heart attack in Ancaster, Ontario. He was the husband of the former Reta Lewis of this community. and is survived by his wife, and two daughters Nancy, Mrs. Brian McKenna of Hamilton and Doris at home. The funeral was held on Thursday, March 13 from Ryerson United • Church. Ancaster with interment in White Chapel Cemetery, Hamilton. Mr. & Mrs. Earl Lewis, Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Lewis and their families attended the funeral service. Connie and Susan remained with their grandmother for some holidays this week.
