UC gets beans
Granton WI celebrates
By MRS. E. SUMMERS
It gave the members of
Granton WI great pleasure to
welcome so many friends, who
came to share in the celebration
of their 60th birthday party. This
took the-€or:6bf a smorgasbord
supper, followed by progressive
euchre.
At the start of the meal each
person is served about a
tabelespoonful of beans on a
paper plate, this is supposed to
represent the amount of food an
adult would get to sustain him for
a day, in a country such as
Bangladesh. Later, patrons could
go back for more beans, a roll,
relishes and coffee.
There were 20 tables for cards,
prize winners were as follows: -
ladies high score, Mrs. Margaret
Harrett; lone hands, Mrs. Heber
Shute; low score, Mrs. Margaret
Elliott, Men's high, Clifford
McRobert; lone hands, Derwin
Beatson; low score, Clarence
Switzer.
The Masonic Hall where the
party was held, was decorated to
honor St. Patrick and "Shure a
good time was had by all
Begorrah" on Thursday night.
Get the beans
The united church "Got Beans"
on Sunday March 16.
Beans were on the menu for a
luncheon prepared jointly by -the
Wesley and Granton
congregations, and held in the
basement of Granton church
following the morning service.
Tickets were sold for $3.00 per
person. The reason for this type
of meal was to make people
aware of how badly money is
needed for the World Develop-
ment and Relief Fund of which
the proceeds for this bean lun-
cheon is to go.
Rev. Mary Mclnally who was
in charge of the service chose to
entitle her sermon "Act or
Perish" and dealt with some
solutions that could be used to aid
these despairing countries.
At St. Thomas Anglican Church
Rev. R.N. Savary conducted the
morning service, and continuing
with his Lenten Meditations
spoke on Holy Week. Flowers
were placed in the church from
the funeral of the late Mrs. Harry
Atkinson, London.
On Tuesday, April 1 there will
be an April Fool's supper and
social evening at the church hall.
CG IT and Explorers
On Wednesday March 5 the
CGIT and Explorers were taken
to see the Ice Capades. Leaders

Scout and Cub news
Cub leader Mrs. Gordon
McRobert with the assistance of
her husband Gordon and Mr. &
Mrs. Robt. McRobert, took her
troop of cubs to Plover Mills,
where they all enjoyed a
toboggan party. Conditions were
ideal for this sport. Thanks are
extended from the pack and
leaders to all who assisted with
transportation, and helped to
make it such a pleasant outing.

County will be joining with the
Granton leaders on Wednesday,

Jones presided and led in the
worship. Poems in keeping with
Easter were read.
The program was in charge of
Mrs. Charles McRobert and Mrs.
Clare Bryan. The theme was
taken from a chapter of the study
book and dealt with the changing
role of the missions in a troubled
world.
Business discussed were plans
for the Unit's annual pot luck
supper. This year it was decided
..that each member would either
bring one cold or hot dish. The
date was set for the evening of
March 27. Mrs. Jack Bryan
kindly offered her home for the
event.
Ten dollars was voted to the
"Bunny Bundle". There was
some discussion on the price of
the quilting and making of quilts.
Arrangements were made in
connection with the rest of the
UCW units to assist with the Bean
Luncheon after the morning
service on Sunday March 16. The
purpose of this endeavor is to
raise money for the World
Development and Relief Fund.

the Granton fire protection.
To correct the mistake, there
was a motion to purchase ap-
proximately $6,300 worth of
equipment, not $63.
Also, a motion was made that
expenses of 18 cents a mile be
paid to certain members, not 10
cents per mile.
We apologize for the mistakes,
and hope they did not cause any
undue inconvenience to those
involved.
