Whalen couple back
from trip to Hawaii

WHALEN
Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Johnson
returned home last week from a
holiday in Hawaii. They
holidayed on the island of Oahu.
They said the weather was very
warm and sunny.
Saturday visitors with Mr. &
Mrs. Cecil Squire were Doug
Squire, Debbie, Christie, Danny
Mailor and Heather Earleall of
London.

Prayer is theme of Crediton UCW

CREDITON
The March meeting of the UCW
was held Thursday evening, with
Nola Faist in charge of the
program, the theme of which was
"Sincere Prayer the Key."
Mrs. Chris Dinney read the
scripture and played a number on
the concertina. Mrs. Lloyd
Lamport, Miss Faist and Mrs.
Alvin Finkbeiner gave readings.
There was a panel on prayers
from the Bible, with prayers of
Moses, David, Solomon and of the
Early Church read. Mrs. Gordon
Finkbeiner accompanied the
singing of hymns. Roll call was
answered by a Scripture verse on
prayer.
During the business session
preparation was made for the
April 3 meeting to which the
Centralia UCW and the local
Explorers have been invited.
Clare McGowan, Goderich, is to
be. guest speaker. Preparation
was also made for Sunday April
20 when Calvin Fahrner,
Mississauga, is to bring a singing
group of eight to)/,ead in the
morning service.
Nola Faist reported the calls
made by the Visiting Committee,
and Ella Morlock reported the
Huron -Perth Presbyterial
meeting held •at Listowel
February 28.'
Hostesses were Mrs. Ervin
Ratz, Mrs. Russell Finkbeiner
and Mrs. Roy Ratz.
Social evening for adults
Monday evening the Adult
Class of Zion United Church held
asocial evening in the Village Inn
Retreat, Grand Bend. Sixty-four
members were present. Harry
Schroeder was Master of
Ceremonies. Rev. Armin
Schlenker led in prayer.

After the dinner Edgar Cud -
more read the Scripture, Ray
Morlock told of his experience on
the Peachey Dairy Farm,
Florida; Nelson Lamport en-
tertained with humorous stories,
and Ella Morlock with riddles,
games and a singsong. Following

ELIMVILLE
On Monday evening an euchre
party was held in the Elimville
Hall. There was six tables set up.
The winners were: ladies high,
Geraldine Grimmick; ladies low,
Phyllis Gower; men's high,
Laverne Skinner; men's low,
Harry Webber; lone hands, Bill
Routly.
Refreshments were served.
The next meeting will be in three
weeks on Monday March 31.
Youth service differs
As the minister was on holidays
the Young People's Sunday
School Class tookcharge of the
Church service. -
The service was arranged
differently. It consisted of songs,
role plays,prayers, stories and

Inter community activities
A large group attended the
Friendship night at the Exeter
Legion on Saturday evening.
Two buses full of people went to
the London Gardens were they
watched the Ice Capades.
Several ladies from the com-
munity attended the World Day
of Prayer at Thames Road
United Church on Monday af-
ternoon. Mrs. Stuart Shiere was
the guest speaker. .

Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Routly visited
with Mr. W. S. McFalls of
Lucan on Sunday.
On Sunday a family gathering
was held at the home of Mr. &
Mrs. Floyd Cooper and family to
celebrate the 35th anniversary of
Mr. & Mrs. Russell Morley.
Those attending were Mr. & Mrs
Ken Lovie of Shipka. Gerald
Morley, Danny and Shard of
Exeter, Mr-. & Mrs. Russell
Morley, Karen and Ralph of
Exeter and Cathy Horrell of
Exeter.
Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Cooper
visited with Mr & Mrs Don
Parsons and family of Ilensall
Sunday evening. They celebrated
Donnie Parsons' and Susan
Willert's birthdays.
Donna Kerslake, Margaret
Pym and Joan Cooper en}nyed a
bus trip with their classmates on
Monday. They visited the Ontario
Science Centre in Toronto.

CROMARTY
The Cromarty community
extends congratulations to Mrs.
Thos. Scott, Sr., who celebrated
her 94th birthday on Wednesday.
March 5. Mrs. Scott, the former
Sarah (Sadie) McNeil McKellar.
was born at Cromarty in 1881. the
daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Donald
McKellar.
Mrs. Scott has one brother,
Lindsay, and two sisters. Mrs.
Elmer Colquhoun and Mrs.
Horton McDugall, as well as her
sons. James and Gordon Scott,
RR 2 Staffa, eight grandchildren,
and 12 great-grandchildren.
For the past few years Mrs.
Scott has lived at Kilbarchan
Nursing borne, Seaforth.

Cathy Russell.. Twenty-three
girls were present.
Bluewater music special
Rev. Armin Schlenker con-
ducted the service at the
Bluewater Rest Home, Zurich
Sunday evening. Special music in
song was provided by Mr. & Mrs.
Charlie Hoffman, Exeter, ac-
companied on the organ by Mrs.
Ed Finkbeiner.
Federation served
Wednesday evening the
Women's Institute catered for the
Federation of Agriculture
banquet. They served 161 guests.

Toronto were weekend guests of
Mr. & Mrs. Reg Finkbeiner.
Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Morlock
were at the home of Dr. & Mrs.
Fred Morlock, Waterloo Sunday.
