It is believed the plan will be similar to the one in Zurich, but different in the respect that Hensall has more industry. It was decided to raise the salary of the fire chief to $30 monthly and to'$20 for expenses. The deputy chief's salary was raised to $15 monthly and an increase bringing monthly wages for the captain to $12.50 and $10 for firemen. An additional $6 will be paid for each fireman attending a mutual aid meeting and $3 for each man responding to each fire alarm. A further $30 will be paid by council for each day for a man attending meetings on fire service. The firemen are insured by the Workmans' Compensation Board for $12,000. Building permits totalling $30,800 were issued in the past month. Permits were Issued to William Scotchmer for a new house; Gary Maxwell, for siding; Keith Volland, for an addition of a room and for the building of a carport; William Petty, for siding on Gable Inn; and to Eric Mansfield for renovations to his attic. Subsidies for maintaining streets for the coming year will be $5,900. ROBERT LAING - CROMARTY The March meeting of Cromarty WMS was held at the home of Mrs. Grace Scott. Mrs. James •Miller presided and opened the meeting with a poem. Hymn 437 was sung. The scrip- ture lesson, Hebrews 2: 10-18, and Hebrews 3: 15, was read in unison followed by meditation and prayer by Mrs. Miller. Mrs. Calder McKaig gave the topic, "Gateway Community Church". Eight members answered the roll call with "A City Church I have attended". Mrs. M. Lamond conducted the business. Plans were made for the World Day of Prayer, which will be held in Hibbert United Church, Staffa, on March 6. The Supply and Expense Fund money will be taken at the May meeting. Old Christmas and greeting cards will be collected at the Easter e meeting n on March 28. The offering was received and dedicated by Mrs. J. Miller. The monthly expenses paid out amounted to $6,435, which in- cluded a $25 grant to the Huron Plowman's Association, and a $50 grant to the Huron Country Playhouse.' Prize winners were: ladies high, Mrs. Mary Broadfoot; gent's high, Clarence Volland; consolation, Ray McDonald; lone hands, Michael Connolly. A draw on a ham was won by Mrs. M Connolly. The Devotional was taken by Mrs. Clarence Volland on "The Lord's Prayer". A recording was presented and Mrs. Volland narrated the meaning of the Lord's Prayer. Invitations were received from the Zurich -Lutheran Church and the Arnold Circle Evening Auxiliary to the Easter Thank Offering meeting. Following the WMS meeting the Ladies Aid meeting was held conducted by the president Mrs. Clarence Volland. 93rd birthday celebrated Stewart McQueen, Hensall celebrated his 93rd birthday at the home of his daughter and son- in-law Mr. & Mrs. Harry Snell. Sunday those attending were his son-in-law and daughter Mr. & 1lrs.Don Rigby; Mr. & Mrs.Bill Knights, Stewart and Jane; Mr. & Mrs. Jim Van Neck of Blenheim; Mrs. John Glenn and Stanley Mitchell, Exeter; and Charles Glanville, Hensall. Mr. McQueen enjoys good health and is out walking every day for his mail. Mr. & Mrs. Percy Campbell returned home after spending a month in Florida. Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Bell returned to their home this week after vacationing for several weeks at St. Petersburg, Florida. Mrs. Pearl Love is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Volland returned home after holidaying with relatives in Toronto and Stratford. United Church notes otes Hensall choir sang the anthem "1 want Jesus to walk with me" for the service of worship in Hensall United Church on Sunday morning. Rev. Don Beck spoke on the communion meditation "Do this in memory of me". Members welcomed from other churches included Mr. & Mrs. Ross Sararas, Dianne and Donald Sararas, Mrs. Mabel Blackburn and Mrs. 'Tessa Fletcher. Those admitted to the session were Mrs. Grace Drummond, Doug Mock, Ross Veal, Hans Gerstenkorn, Lloyd Ferguson, Roy Brock,Pat O'Brien, Dave Kyle. Mrs. Florence Slade and Joan Alexander.
