Atom tourney
is successful
The second annual atom
Leprechaun tournament proved
to be a success as eight teams
were registered in the "B"
Division, 6 in "C" and 13 in "D".
Some of the teams played as
many as three games with the
eventual winners ing Byron
over Cedar Hill 3- in overtime in
the "B"; Dres en over Port
Stanley 4-1 in "C" and Parkhill
over Blyth 9-2 in "D".
Tim Culbert of Lucan took
home the most valuable
goalkeeper trophy. The tour-
nament committee would like to
thank all the volunteers who gave
their time.
Explorers hear
110 review of church
The opening ceremony of
Lucan-Clandeboye Explorers
was conducted by Lori Leitch. A'
story was presented, taking place
in 1975, and concerned with the
celebration of the 50th an-
niversary of the United Church.
Mrs. Don O'Neil conducted a
review of the years 1925, 1950 and
1975. Mrs. William Froats
discussed Brazil and the work of
missionaries there. A recording
of Brazilian music was listened
to.
A prayer was made for help-
fulness by Lori Melanson. Jill
Cunningham told about the wild
rose of Alberta. Two girls, Tami
McRoberts and Jaqui Green
planned and conducted two word
games.
The gold star was presented to
Mary Madden. Lori Leach, Beth
Arthurs and Barbara Richards.
The blue star scrapbooks are to
be handed in Monday, March 3.

in tournament
Listowel Jr. Farmers hosted a
12 county hockey tournament,
Friday and Saturday. Ted
Beadle, Tom Hardy, Richard
Acres, Jeff Park and Mike
Wraith of the Lucan Ju��ior
Farmers were part of the Mid-
dlesex County entry.
They lost their first game on
riday 6-0 to I,ambton County
and then on Saturday they won 8-
2 over Niagara South. In their
second game of the day they lost
in overtime to Wellington County
his series on the Book of Romans.
The GYPSWY youth group
joined other youth in town in
canvassing for the Heart Fund
and attended, along with the
confirmation class, the
OWACHIRA London Youth for
Christ Chorus Concert at Parkhill
United, Sunday evening. The
GYPSWY is sponsoring a coffee
house this Saturday evening at 8
p.m. in Lucan Church, with
imported and local talent. All
young people are welcome.
This Thursday practice con-
tinues on the Bach Cantata at 9
p.m. and Mr. & Mrs. Bill Kirby
will address the Couples
Fellowship on the new Crestwood
home in the area.
Sunday March 2 at 8 p.m. we
begin a new Gospel Sing series.
All who enjoy an 'Old -Fashioned'
Gospel Hymn Sing are invited.
Mrs. Roy Dykeman will be at the
piano.
The Friendship Unit of the
UCW held their meeting Wed-
nesday at the United Church and
Marg McRoberts gave the
worship and devotion. Bea
Madden explained how the UC
got its crest. The Friendship Unit
will be in charge of the joint UCW
Easter meeting to be held at the
UC March 11 with Donna Van
Arenthals and Pat Stutt acting as
conveners. Ann Holden, Jeannie
Jones, and Sharon McDonald will
be conveners for the semi-annual
fellowship luncheon to be held
early in April.
Officers elected
by 4-H groups
Group two held their meeting
on Saturday at the home of Mrs.
John- VanderLoo, their leader.
The officers elected were
president Karen VanderLoo;
vice-president Mary VanderLoo;
secretary Susan Manders and
press reporter Rosemary Boland.
Demonstrations were held on
whole wheat freezer bread. The
next meeting will be held at Mrs.
Adrian DeBrouwer's
Group one met at Nancy
VanGeel's and group three at
Mrs. Gerald Straatman's where
they baked the whole wheat
freezer bread they had made the
week before and mixed basic
white bread to be frozen for next
week. Then they got to sample
their whole wheat bread along
with a cup of tea. The next
meeting will be held at Nancy
VanGeel's for group one and Mrs.
Den O'Neil's for group three.

John Armitage led in the
singing at the morning service
and Rev. Brewster spoke from
Malachi 1:2.
Joan Lockyer sang a solo ac-
companied with her guitar at the
evening service and Rev.
Brewster spoke from Acts 22: 22-
30.
The WA meeting was held on
Tuesday evening at Mrs. Ernest
Ferguson's home and Eileen
Currie was in charge. A
devotional study was held on the
Lord knowing our hearts.
The Sunday School received a
trophy for winning the Contest of
the Ontario Conference. Gwen
and Brian Densmore, Lynn
Butler and Cindy Bakker were
treated to an airplane ride over
London Saturday for bringing the
most newcomers to Sunday
School.

WI nutrition workshop
The meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. Jim Loekyer,
president with 13 members and
one guest present. An invitation
was received from Riverview WI
to their Tuesday March 11
meeting at Coldstream which will
be a workshop on nutrition. No
delegate has been named as yet
to attend the WI conference to be
held at Waterloo on April 29, 30
and May 1. The convener of
public relations, Mrs. Sheridan
Revington, presented an in-
teresting program while her
assistant, Mrs. Ewart Madden,
presented a supplement to the
public relations program. A
game played on old time songs -
was won by Mrs. Lillian Ashton.
After the meeting was adjourned,
a bridal shower was held for Jane
who was married on
Lockyer
February 15. Jane expressed her
thanks and lunch was served by
Mrs. Lockyer assisted by
Mrs. Hebden. 'The bride
presented each member with a
piece of wedding cake and a
memento and showed the rest
of her many beautiful gifts.
Blind Institute
gets Lions donation
The Lions club held their bi-
monthly dinner meeting at the
Anglican Church Hall on
February 17. A $250 donation to
the C.N.I.B. was approved and
also $50 to the Biddulph-St.
Patricks public speaking contest.
The February dance which was
cancelled due to the atom hockey
tournament, will be held
Saturday, March 1.
