The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1975-02-20, Page 15 (2)McKinlay said they hoped to "beg, borrow or steal" most of the materials, but asked RAP tc approve $500 to assist. This was done. The adventure playground may be built at Victoria Park and/or Riverview Park. It would include rope swings, climbing apparatus, etc. In reply to a question from RAP chairman Jack Underwood, McKinlay said such a playground does not take a great deal of space as it can be very confined. He went on to say that the Lon- don PUC have developed several playgrounds of this nature in re- cent years in co-operation with education officials and have colunteered to assist Exeter wherever possible. In other business, RAP: Learned that the men's basket- ball league has expanded to teams. from Goderich. Exeter. Seaforth and the Centralia College of Agricultural Technology and that an eight- week schedule was now un- derway. Were advised that the Huron Perth Separate School Board would be renting the arena gym- nasium for students at Precious Blood School for a five-week trial basis. They will be charged $30 for the entire five weeks. If it proves successful a long-term program may be implemented next year. Made plans to advertise for summer playground and swim pool staff. Chief instructor Susan Tuckey will not be returning this year .and applications for this position are being sought from the students in the recreation program'at Waterloo University. McKinlay and Ruth Durand ex- pect to interview applicants there this weekend. Learned that about a dozen ladies are interested in the bad- minton program at the arena. They will play Tuesday. Wednes- day and Thurstiay mornings at a cost of 25 cents each. Need use rules for bowling room The renovations and additions at the Exeter lawn bowling club house are nearing completion. resources committee chairman Bob Pooley reported Monday night. Ile told RAP that some rules and guidelines would have to be establi'-hed for use of the room built at the clubhouse under New Horizons program Ile said, it would not be fair for RAP to provide the room only for use of the card players as other groups had indicated an interest in using the facilities as well. "It's not going to be a nice job." he stated. "but we have to get it ironed out." He also reported that the trees had been removed and Reeve Derry Boyle questioned why they had been,.cukdown. Pooley replied that three of the trees were dead and the bowling club had requested that the others be taken down because they cast shadows on the greens. Boyle noted that the trees had actually been planted as a hedge and he could recall that when he was 16 or 17, the town youths hid behind the hedge to watch the girls go past. • • • 11 Cars, Trucks 1971 MAVERICK Grabber, automatic, in excellent condition. Boit 459 Exeter, Ontario 8c CLASSIFIED DEADLINE Tuesday 4 p.m. Phone 235-1331 Get good response for playground plan Exeter reel nation director Jim McKinlay reported this week he has received a good response from area students interested in being involved in an Opportunity for Youth program this summer. McKinlay has helped them organize a request for a project to build a creative or adventure playground in Exeter. He said 16 students have attended planning sessions, although probably only about 10 of them will be chosen if the program is approved. While OF Y will pay the salaries of the young people in- volved, only 10 percent of the en- tire project cost can be used for materials. Huron loses college class . Conestoga College announces that the post secondary secretarial program currently offered at the Clinton Centre, will be transferred to the Stratford Centre of Conestoga College, effective September 1. The decision followed a careful study of the learning facilities at the Clinton Centre, and of the suggestions of faculty, secretarial students, and members of the community. The study indicates that the transfer is necessary if the quality of the learning experience offered in this program is to be maintained at the optimum level of effectiveness. The Stratford Centre, located in an urban setting with a high population density, offers more viable research and career (as well as potential enrollment) opportunities," the report said. The presence of a post secondary business ad- ministration program and a nursing division in Stratford will provide desirable peer, faculty and activity associations. The Stratford Centre is generally Netter established and more favourably located for the positive growth and development of a dynamic and innovative post secondary Secretarial Arts Program."
