Fifield ties record
Jets four up in Continental
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets were
in action on only one occasion this
week but managed to hold on to
first place in the Ontario Hockey
Association Senior Continental
league standings.
The Jets scored a very decisive
12-2 victory' over their arch rivals
the Durham Huskies at the
Ilderton arena Friday night to up
Broncos out
of OMHA play
The Exeter Broncos have been -
quickly eliminated in the second
round of Ontario Minor Hockey
Association Atom playoffs.
After eliminating Strathroy in
three straight games in the first
round. the Broncos lost 2-1 and 5-1
to Byron.
Scott Pincombe scored for
Exeter on a pass from Dave Shaw
in Sunday's 5-1 loss to Byron and
the marksman in the opening 2-1
loss was Mike Clark with the
assist coming from 13111 Glover.
Waxers suffer .
defeat in novice
The Exeter Waxers dropped a
10-1 decision to Strathroy
Saturday in a novice division
hockey game.
The lone Exeter goal came
from the stick of Darren Van-

Stratford Perths who held an
early season lead are in third spot
with 39 points to their credit.
The Jets face a busy week as
they are at home to the Wood-
stock Royals Friday at 8:30 p.m.
and the Preston Jesters Sunday
afternoon at 2 p.m. In their only
travel engagement the Jets visit
the Stratford Perths Tuesday
night.
Against Durham, Friday, the
Jets took a 3-0 lead after the first
period of play and never looked
back increasing the margin to 7-1
at the end of 40 minutes of play.
During the game Rick Fifield
scored three goals to run his
season total to 42 good enough to
tie the league record.

'At the halfway mark Fifield
scored on a solo effort when his
team was playing a man short.
Persistent checking allowed the
league's leading sorer to add to
his total.
Barry Baynham finished off
the first period counting on a
three-way effort with Jack Nairn
and Fifield. At 8:23 of the middle
frame Terry Keeling notched the
first Durham score on a scramble
around the L-1 net.
Before the period was over the
light behind the Huskies net
blinked on four more occasions.
Jamie Robb fired his second of
the night with passing help from
.Lim Blake and Jeff Craig.
Veteran forward Doug
Galloway took over scoring
honours at the 18 minute mark
and hit the mark with two suc-
cessful shots in only 10 seconds.
Terry Johnston assisted on both
markers and Pete Loveless
helped on one. With less than a
minute to go in the period Jack
Nairn registered with help from
Steve Proctor and Johnston.
Early in the final session Jamie
Robb dashed from one end of the
arena to the other to complete a
hat trick performance.
Goals came thick and fast in
the balance of the period. Rick
Fifield registered twice to up his
game total to three and Jacques

Two Huron Park clubs
advancing in playoffs
l'wo Huron Park hockey teams
have moved into the third round
of playoffs in the Ontario Minor
Hockey Association.
The midgets disposed' of
Shedden in two straight games
and will now meet Langton.
Dates have not yet been an-
nounced. The Huron Park pee
wees had little trouble in
eliminating Muncey in two
straight contests and will now
meet Langton. The first game
was played last night, Wed-
nesday.
Blyth Iluron Park midget wins
over Shedden were accomplished
in overtime. Saturday on home
ice the Huron Park youngsters
scorers three times in the extra
period to gain a 7-4 victory and
Sunday back in West Lorne it was
Huron Park winning 5-3 again in
overtime.
The opening game victory was
paced by a four goal performance
by Randy Somerville. Getting
one goal apiece were Perry Knee.
Bob Stuckless and Brian Lather.
Randy Somerville was again
the top scorer in Sunday's win
a two goal effort. Firing
single goals were Bob Stuckless,
Dave O'Neill and Jim Moffatt.

The South Huron District High
School wrestling team failed to
win the Huron -Perth team
championship for the first time in
six years.
Competing in Stratford Friday
the South Huron grapplers were
runners-up to Goderich in an

locals accumulated 110 points. St

• Three- South Huron wrestlers
won their weight division titles
and will be appearing in the
Western Ontario Secondary
Schools Association finals to be
held in Sarnia. Friday and
Saturday. They will be ac-
companied by six others who
placed in the top three in their
respective classes.
Mike Westelaken wrestling at
106 pounds won three straight
matches to win his division as did
Paul Reahurn at 130 pounds and
Rick Bilcke in the unlimited
weight division .
Placing second were Mark
Paton. Paul Kristoferson and
Perry Sereda. Paton lost his
final match by a close 7-5 score.
Third place finishers were
\larc Gelinas, Steve Jennison,
Dave Lovell and Murton Brock.
Paul Reahurn was judged the
best South Huron wrestler of the
week, and Rick Bilcke was the
most improved merftber of the
team. -
The Huron -Perth dual meet
championship was held at South
Huron District lligh School
Wednesday with "the local
grapplers playing host to
Goderich.
in summing up the team's
performance at the Huron -Perth
finals. coach Doug Ellison
remarked, "the boys did an
excellent job- They worked hard
and with a few breaks could have
won again."
. Ellison continued, "My
assistant Ted Girard and i were
very pleased with their im-
provement this year We had a lot
of boys in their first year of
competition and they par-
ticipated in more tournaments
than ever before."

Terry Hodgins and John Insley
were the Huron Park marksmen
with assists going to David
Murray and Steve O'Neill.
The Huron Parkettes were in
action three times this week. The
best they could do was a 1-1 tie
with Lucan after losing to Cen-'
tralia College 2-0 and 3-2.
Anne "B" Lewis scored . all
three goals for the Parkettes.
Midgets out
of playoffs
The Exeter midgets were
eliminated in Ontario Minor
Hockey Association playoffs
Saturday by Byron after coming
back Thursday to keep their
chances alive.
At the Oakridge arena Thur-
sday night. the Exeter club
scored a close 6-5 victory but fell
to Byron 7-5 sat the Exeter arena
Saturday.
The locals never gave up as
Ken Pinder tied the score at 5-5
with only 37 seconds remaining in
the third period but Byron scored
twice in an overtime period
Sunday.
The only goal of the first period
was scored by Doug Osgood of
Exeter on a pass' from Paul
Shapton. Byron tied the score
quickly in the middle frame and
then Exeter exploded for two
quick goals in the last 38 seconds
of play.
Paul Shapton hit the mark on
the first one with passing help
from Ken Pinder and John Van
Gerwen completed a three-way
effort with Doug Regier and Paul
Brooks.
Scoring came thick and fast in.
the third period with Byron
counting four times to -two suc-
cessful shots by Exeter
The fourth Exeter goal came
from the stick of Ken Pinder on a
three-way effort with Pete
Kincaid and Paul Shapton.
In Thursday's game the Exeter
youngsters held a 5-2 lead at the
end of the second period on the
strength of five unanswered goals
in the middle frame and were
unable to hold the Byron club off
in the last period.
Brian Horrell and Bruce Gunn
each scored two goals to head up
the Exeter scoring. Getting one
-goal apiece were Byron Davis
and Ken Pinder.
