Exeter bantams
lead playoffs
The Exeter bantams have
taken a one game lead in the first
round of Ontario Minor Hockey
Association playoffs with a 6-3
win over Byron Sunday.
The second game oftbe best -of -
five series was played in Exeter
last night, Wednesday. The third
game is also set for the Exeter
arena Saturday afternoon at 4:30
p.m.
Outstanding goal tending by
Ted Triebner allowed the ban-
tams to score their opening win.
On two occasions the locals were
forced to play two men short but
Triebner and a strong penalty
killing force came up with good
efforts.
On the scoreboard the Exeter
club took a 2-0 lead in the first
period and were never headed.
Paul Pooley and Randy Par-
sons each scored two goals to
lead the winners scoring attack.
They scored the first four goals
for their team to take a 4-3
margin by the halfway mark of
the third period.
Randy Fisher hit the mark with
a slap shot with four minutes left
in the game to give the locals the
insurance goal they needed. Brad
Taylor got the draw on the face-
off and flipped the puck back to
Fisher and it was in the net.
With Byron putting six for-
wards on the ice in the last
minute in an attempt to get
closer, Perry Pooley scored into
an empty net on a play started by
Dennis Preszcator and Paul
Pooley.
In an exhibition game against
the same Byron club, Thursday
the Exeter youngsters won by a 4-
0 score.
Scoring in single fashion were
Brian Mercer, Randy Fisher,
Darrell Preszcator and Paul
Pooley.
In the annual Lucan bantam
tourney held Saturday the Exeter
team won the consolation round
with a 3-1 win over St. Marys
after being blanked 6-0 by Delhi
in the opener.
Paul Pooley hit the mark with
two shots against St. Marys and
Derek Regier added the odd
counter.
Exeter pee wees
have 5-2 victory
The Exeter pee wee "B" team
came up with a 5-2 victory over
St. Marys Sunday.
Peter Tuckey was tops for the
locals with a two goal effort.
Tuckey notched his first marker
on passes from John Stephens
and Greg Dougall and the second
came on a pass from Kevin
Parsons.
Getting one goal apiece for the
winners were John- Stephens,
David Bell and Kevin Parsons.
