The schedule in the South
Huron intermediate hockey
league ends this weekend and a
real battle exists for the top
spots.
At the moment, the Exetgr
Mohawks and Zurich Flyers are
tied for first place with 27 points
Lead for Angels
in darts continues
The lead of the Dark Angels at
the top of the standings in the
Exeter Legion mixed dart league
was increased to three points
after Friday's regular action.
The Dark Angels have a season
point total of 67 while the Itchy
Niters are next with 64 points.
The Doublers hold down third
position with 63 points.

two of the top clubs broke even.
In Zurich, Friday night the
Shipka Colonials scored an 8-6
win over the Mohawks. Monday,
back in Exeter it was the
Mohawks turn to win by a 5-4
score.
The schedule for the Mohawks
ends with two away games. They
will be at the Huron Park arena.

meet Jura. To gain Friday's 8-6 win, the
Shipka club broke loose with
seven straight goals in the se-
cond period, three coming in a
space of 50 seconds.
The Shipka scoring was led by
two different players by the
same name. Peter Gill and Peter
Gill each scored two goals. Get-
ting away two successful shots
was Shane Burley while Reid
Burley and Dave Turner added
singles.
Brad Datars and Jim Pfaff
each scored twice for the
Mohawks. Scoring in single
fashion were Al Rimmer and
Randy Decker: -
The Exeter goals in Friday's 5-
4 win came as Gus Brown, Jim
PfafT, Brad Datars, Randy
Decker and Murray Glanville
each hit the Shipka net.
Peter Gill, John Becker, Larry
Laye and Bill Hoffman with one
goal apiece took care of the scor-
ing for the Colonials.

Jets continue three point lead,
break even in Kings series
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets
managed to hold on to a three
point lead at the top of the
standings in the Ontario Hockey
Association Senior Continental
league after breaking even in a
home and home series with the
London Kings.
Thursday night in Lambeth,
the Kings scored a 7-4 victory but
the Jets came roaring back on
home ice at the Ilderton arena
Sunday afternoon to double the
score on the London club 1p-5.
The Jets head the league with
40 points, the Stratford Perths
are second with 37 points and the
London Kings are third with 34
points and Durham is fourth with
30 points. Each of the four teams
have played 28 games to date.
The only action for the Jets this
week is a Sunday afternoon home
engagement against the Preston
Jesters. A scheduled trip to
Preston, Friday has been post-
poned to March 4.
Pee wees win
in OMHA play
The Exeter pee wees took a one
game lead in the first round of
Ontario Minor Hockey
Association playoffs with a 2-1
Sunday win over Byron.
The second game was played in
Exeter last night, Wednesday.
with the third game set for the
Byron arena Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
The Exeter win was ac-
complished in the first game in
the seventh minute of a first
overtime period.
Mark Parsons fired the win-
ning goal on passes from Jeff
Fuller and Larry Dawson.
Byron took a one goal lead at
the eight minute mark of the
second period and about six
minutes later, Doug Brooks
squared matters on a pass from
Wayne Parsons.
The Exeter pee wees travelled
to St. Thomas Wednesday to
fulfill a Shamrock 'A' league
commitment and suffered a 3-1
loss.
The only Exeter goal was fired
by Larry Dawson with passing
help coming from Jeff Fuller'.

Rick Fifield who is the league's
top scorer was at his best Sunday
in leading the Jets to their win
over the Kings. Fifield scored
four times to up his season's total
to 38.
After holding a 5-1 lead at the
halfway mark of the second
period, the Jets let down and
were holding a slim one goal
margin when the teams headed
for the second rest period.
In the third. the Jets came out
flying and scored a quick goal to
again take command.
First period scoring was
restricted to the last five minutes
and'a few seconds. The London
club opened the scoring at 14.46
on a fast breaking passing play.
Jim Keon hit the mark on passes
from Dave Gorman and Mac
Westgate.
At 17:46 Rick Fifield started his
and the game scoring as he
converted passes from Don
Carter and Jeff Craig. In the next
minute and a half the Jets
jumped ahead 3-1.
Pete Loveless scored from
Jack Nairn and Doug Galloway
and Blake hit with help from
Jamie Robb and Steve Proctor.
The second period was only a
minute and a half old when Jack
Nairn from behind the net found
Pete Loveless parked all alone at
the side of the net and he made no
mistake. •
Fifield was back in the scoring
column 10 minutes later to put the
Jets ahead 5-1 and then the
recession hit and the Kings took
over.
Brian Hind, Brian Chinnick and
Paul Phillips scored for the Kings
to put them back into contention.
Chinnick's goal was hotly
disputed by the L -I club claiming
the puck was deflected by a high
stick.
Rick Fifield worked hard to
score his third goal at 2.58 of the
final period. He was knocked
down in front of the net but was
able to propel the puck home
while lying on his stomach. Don
Carter and Dick Doughty
assisted.
A goal at the 10:43 came on a
very deliberate play. Jack Nairn
was behind the London net and
held the puck for several seconds
without being challenged. He
finally flipped it out to a waiting
Jim Pinnegar and the score was
7-1
The final Jets scoring splurge
came in the last two minutes of
play on three quick goals. Fifield
completed his four goal effort on
passes from Larry Haugh and
Steve Proctor. Loveless scored
from Doug Galloway and Terry
Johnson and Pete Loveless and
Larry Haugh set up Doug
Galloway.
The final London goal was fired
by JimWalker.
The Jets held a good edgein
territorial play as they outshot
the Jets 65-34. The attendance
was listed at 860.
Rec scores
are close
The scores were close in both
Exeter and district Rec hockey
games played Thursday night.
Usborne township edged the
North Stars 4-2 and Les Pines and
Newby Tire battled to a 5-5 tie.
Tonight, Thursday. Usborne
and Les Pines meet in the first
game at 8 p.m. and the North
Stars and Newby Tire tangle at
9:30.
Al Hern, Ron Dougall. Jim
Skinner and Larry Johns each
notched one goal to account for
the Usborne scoring
Chris Daniel registered both
goals for the losing North Stars.
Ed Kerslake fired two suc-
cessful shots to pace the Newby
scoring attack Getting one goal
apiece were Bob Jones. Toni
MacDonald and Dale Skinner
The Newby scoring was well
spread with Fred Welts. Doug
Fairbairn, Ian McCallum. Ron
Moore and John Gadwa hitting
with one goal each.
HP minors
take trophy
Five Huron Park minor hockey
teams travelled to Royal Oak,
Michigan Sunday and returned
with the International trophy.
Huron Park won the two game
series 31-29 after taking a 24-20
lead in the first half played at
Huron Park a couple of weeks
ago.
The midget win by Huron Park
5-1 *over Royal Oak in the final
game of the series ensured the
championship win.
Royal Oak won the first two
games of the day taking the atom
game 2-0 and the squirt contest 1-
0. Royal Oak took the pee wee af-
fair 2-1 and the bantam game
ended in a 3-3 tie.
Tony Underhill scored the only
HP pee we •.oal and Ross Black
scored twice r the bantams and
Perr I . added a single.
The 1 ran •ark midget scor-
ing was ' ed by Brian Lather
and Randy`' merville with two
goals - apiec The odd counter

Back in Shrock league play,
Huron Par atoms lost 4-2 to
Ilderton. Steve O'Neil fired both
goals. A return game saw Ilder-
ton win by a score of 5-2. Steve
O'Neil and Terry Hodgins were
_the HP marksmen.
Against Exeter, Wednesday.
the HP atoms won 4-2. Steve
O'Neilt scored twice for the
winners and Steve Morrissey and
John Insley added singles. Scor-
ing for Exeter were Chris Van
Gerwen and Trevor Boyle.
Steve O'Neill and Dave
Murray scored for Huron Park in
a 2-2 tie with Mountsfield. It was
the first time this year in 26
starts that the London area team
had failed to win. '
In bantam action. Dorchester
downed Huron Park 4-2. Both
goals for the locals were scored
by Mark Cronyn.
A midget contest saw
Dorchester win 5-4. Perry Knee
and Randy Somerville each
scored a pair of goals for the
Park.
In the final game of the week.
Huron Park pee wees whipped
Ilderton 5-1. SCoring in single
fashion for the winners were
Steve Gibbs. Ralph Wells. Mike
Mills. Benji Hillman and Richie
Lather.
Playoffs in the OMHA for
Huron Park teams begin this
week. Saturday at 2 p.m. the
hhuron Park atoms will meet
Delaware at the Huron Park
arena and at 3 p.m. the same two
teams will meet in pee wee com-
petition.
The HP bantams and midgets
will also meet Delaware in
OMHA play. Home games will be
played at the Huron Park arena
Tuesday night with games set for
8 and 9 p.m.
HP wins in house
Saturday's pee wee house
league game ended in a 4-2 win
for Huron Park over Exeter.
Peter Christie turned in a three
goal performance while Jim
Lawrence added a single for
Iluron Park. Assists went to Jeff
Dixon. Peter Sutherland, Ed
1)eV'ries and Jim Lawrence.
