New math club
features quizes
By ZELDA INTHOUT
A Math club? Who, would want
to join a math club?Well about a
dozen kids went to the first
meeting, half out of curiosity, to
find out what it was all about.
They found that the new club
consisted of games and quizzes
that are both fun and
recreational. There are teasers of
all kinds to test anybody's
imagination. Mr. Webster is
looking after it.
The meetings are every
Wednesday in the activity period
in room 108. It seems as if it will
be lots of fun. Come on out and
see.

South Huron D.H.S. is joining the O.S.S.S.U. To those who
have not clued in yet, this "mysterious" organization is the On-
tario Secondary School Student Union.
The union was developed to "open channels of com-
munications between students and persons or groups that make
decisions affecting students." Another objective is to bring about
better relations between students and their student governments.
A student Bill of Rights has been drawn up by the Union to
enable every student to exercise his her human rights while in
school. This bill has been brought before the Ontario government
as a Private Members' Bill and will hopefully be passed in the near
future after proper amendments.
Some teachers may feel that such a bill is not necessary, says
Tony Kyle Student Council Vice -President, and we at South Huron
can probably agree to this. However, we do need set laws to
guarantee our rights in cases of exception. "As human beings,
students should have a tool with which to defend themselves from
the bureaucracy if this is necessary and fortunately it very seldom
is necessary here.
By joining the Student Union students can join with other stu-
dent bodies in the province to guarantee rights for themselves and
future students of Ontario Secondary Schools.
The Student Union is an effective structure which at present
has 200 member schools.
South Huron is getting involved. One thin dime is the price
each student is to pay. When taking into account all the benefits of
such a set-up how can anyone question such a small contribution.
Students deserve to have respect for their own rights. Raid
your piggy bank and deliver your ten pennies to your home room
teacher soon. It is certain you will not regret it!

Band needs
musicians
Are you interested in music? If
so, you probably bemoan the lack
of music and musical ap-
preciation within the school? Not
so.There is one minority group of
talented and dedicated musicians
in our school.
This is the school band whose
abilities you heard at the
Christmas Assembly. Since then
they have ordered new music, of
an up-to-date calibre. But they
don't need music, they need real
flesh and blood people.
So come on, help them out, and
let the sun shine!
Journalism club
writes Guardian
By MARIAN ADAMS
Last February, when students
at SHDHS chose their courses for
the 1974-75 school year, they may
have noticed a new English 400
course added to the course
selection booklet.
Journalism 458, the supposed
continuation of English 358 Mass
Media, was to be one semester in
length. The students in that
course among other things were
to write articles for the school
newspaper."The Guardian" and
in a sense be the Guardian staff.
Mr. Baker an ex -newspaper
editor taught the Journalism
course. It was a tough course to
teach because there wasn't any
organized course outline.
Because the course's end was
so near at hand the Guardian club
had to be formed. There was a
meeting last Friday for students
interested in joining the club
Thankfully some of the jour-
nalism 458 students showed up
However more students are
needed.
Deb Hillman, the Guardian
editor hopes more students show
up for the next meeting. Meetings
are held every Monday at 3:20 in
the library. Anyone who doesn't
want to join the Guardian club
but wants to contribute is
welcome to do so.
