IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD The Executive was in charge 01 the January meeting of the UCW of Calvary United church. In the absence of the president, vice- president, Mrs. Don Gaiser was chairlady. The theme for the evening was 50 years in the United church. Rev. Bruce Guy showed a film on the theme. Mrs. Jack Gaiser read the story of the year before 1925, "A new church for a new coun- try." Three pioneer ministers were recognized. with the story on Rev. James Evans read by Mrs. Lloyd Eagleson; Rev. Egerton Ryerson read by Mrs. Clayton Verner; Rev. Robert Rundle read by Mrs. Jack Gaiser. Mrs. «'m. Chandler read the Scripture lesson. All sang the 50th an- niversary hymn. Mrs. Hugh Boyle gave the prayer. Mrs. Don Gaiser conducted the business. Eighteen members were present. Annual reports were read and accepted. The Huron -Perth presbyterial will be held at Listowel February 26. The Sunshine committee is Mrs. Wm. Chandler and Mrs. Bruce Guy. Former resident dies Kevin Denomme, 17, Waterloo, was killed in a car -truck accident at Carlingford, Sunday, January 19. He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. John Denomme, Waterloo, and formerly of Dashwood. He is also survived by two brothers, Roger and Shawn, and his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Morris Denomme, Dashwood, and Mr. & Mrs. Ed. Denomme, Zurich; a number of aunts, un- cles and cousins in this area. Personals ?4r. & Mrs.. Fred Miller and girls. Zion, were Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader. Mr. & Mrs. Victor Hartman celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Saturday. January 18, with a reception in Dashwood Community Centre. The annual ratepayers meeting for Dashwood will be held Tuesday, January 28, at 8 p.m. in the community centre. All ratepayers are urged to attend. Surprised on 80th birthday By MANUEL CURTS GREENWAY Mrs. Ettie Bullock who observ- ed her 80th birthday on January 16 was pleasantly surprised on Sunday when she was guest of honor at a family dinner at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Fred Bullock and family. Those attending were Mr. & Mrs. Earl Gardiner, New- market. Mrs. Mary Winterburn and Glen, Toronto. Mrs. Reta Sabot, Kim and Cindy. Denfield, Mr. & Mrs. Bob Bullock, Parkhill, Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Bullock and family. Mrs. Melissa Gardner and Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Adair, Orno and Kim. • Eugene King, Crediton is visiting with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Ken Eagleson and Jamie while his parents are holidaying in Florida. Joanne Walper, Joan and Judy Lagerwerf and Janet Bullock were in London on the weekend in connection with a N.M.D.H. School play presentation and were guests of Marlene Bullock, R.N. Evelyn, Viola and Manuel Curts were guests at a turkey dinner at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ken Smithers, London on Wednesday. Several friends and relatives attended funeral services for the late Roy Young of Moray on Fri- day. Interment was in Parkhill cemetery. By the way: Brenda's mother told her to let her younger sister, Heather, use her sled which she received for Christmas,' half of the time. After they were finish- ed playing in the snow, Brenda was asked how it worked out. "Very good, Mom," she replied "1 had the sled going down the hill and she had it coming up." DAVID KESTLE CIANDEBOYE A group of boys eight to twelve years of age and their three leaders from the Youth for Christ spent Saturday and the night at the Huron Scout Camp grounds in Goderich. Saturday afternoon they en- joyed winter fun at Benmiller, tobogganing, snow shoeing and sleigh riding. Mr. Andrew Robertson is one of the leaders of this group, from London district. Ronnie, the Robertson's german shepherd went along for the trip and en- joyed a ride downhill , on the toboggan. Vestry meeting St. James Anglican church vestry meeting was held last Wednesday evening at the church. Roy Cunningham and Bob Hodgins were elected as the new wardens. Eighteen members were present and the ladies served lunch. Personals Mrs. W. Cunningham is home from St. Joseph's Hospital and is getting around with the aid of a cane. HP Brownies collect bottles On Saturday, January 18, 1975, the 1st Huron Park Brownie Pack held a bottle drive. In miserable weather conditions the 7 to 10 year old girls trudged quite cheerfully from door to door collecting their battles. Some of the householders loaded the children up to such an extent that mothers and fathers accompanying each group had to help. The bottles were all taken to the Brown Owl's house (Mrs. Bouwman 1 where a group of adults sorted them. This was the second time in ten days that the children went aroundthe park. The first time was to deliver notices of the drive so that everyone would keep their empties. After their work the girls were treated to hot chocolate donated by C19verdale and cookies provided by the Brownie Pack which also provided coffee for the adults. The Brownies effort would have been to little avail had it not been for the cooperation of Greg's Variety, Cloverdale in Huron Park, and the Brewers Retail and Tuckey Beverage in Exeter for promptly redeeming the bottles when they were delivered by Wayne Brunzlow and Doug Riley. The success of the drive may be measured by the fact that the Brownie funds have been in- creased by almost 8100.00. This will help the girls to take part in many activities this coming spring and summer. renes Road By MRS. Mrs. Edna Passmore, Exeter, Miss Sharon Passmore, London were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Passmore. Nancy Alexander Toronto spent the weekend with her parents Mr. & Mrs. Bert Alexander. The annual Congregational Meeting and pot luck dinner will be held in the church basement on Sunday January 26 after the morning church service. Tom Kestle and Lynn Ross left with a group for Hawaii, Mgnday morning, they will be staying for two weeks. Mr. & Mrs. Larry Lewis drove Mr. ' & Mrs. G. Lee to Detroit airport where they left for a one week vacation with Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Lewis, Ford -Lauderdale, Florida. Friday night an exciting time was had by all the Clandeboye Ladies ball team when they challenged their husbands and boyfriends to a broomball hockey game at Lucan Arena. Pentecostal Holiness Mr. John Armitage led in the song service at both morning and evening services at the Pen- tecostal Holiness Church on Sunday. At the morning service Rev. Ray Brewster, speaking from Joel 3: 13-14 stated that the Christian needs a vision from God to see the people won to God who are in the valley of decision. In the evening he spoke from Acts 26: 12-18 saying all of us are born for a purpose, that of serving God and then helping others. Women's Auxiliary Members of the Women's Auxiliary of the Pentecostal Holiness Church held their January meeting at the home of Rev. & Mrs. Ray Brewster on Tuesday evening, with President Mrs. Howard Currie in charge. She talked of the importance of studying your Bible, using as her reference 2 Timothy 2:15. Mrs. Brewster asked each member to give her resolutions for the New Year. Mrs. Currie reviewed the 10 point standard of the Auxiliary, explaining how they were met during 1974 and how they would be met in 1975. She showed the Gold Seal which will be received for the fourth year in a row, later in 1975. United Church ''What is the truth' was a question asked the congregation of Lucan United Church on Sunday morning, by Rev. Ewart Madden, as he gave an "Introduction to 'Romans' ". Two senior groups meet Members of the Sunshine and "Busy _Buddies" groups of the Lucan Senior Citizens' Club met on Thursday afternoon with President Gordon Hotson chairing the business meeting. The members agreed that membership cards should be ordered and set a token fee of .50c per year. Mr. Hotson read a letter from Mr. Gary Mitchell of London regarding a volunteer worker for Lucan, to be trained, for various duties in connection with assisting seniors, and two members indicated they might be interested. Social Convener, Mrs. Harold Cobleigh reported that enough members had signed up for bowling and plans would proceed. The members of the Sunshine Group enjoyed Bingo. while the Busy Buddies continued their artistic 'efforts in liquid em- broidery. Mrs. Tom Emery, Sr., gave a humorous reading entitled "Dried Apple Pies" and lunch was served by Mrs. L. Toohey, Mrs. L. McCarthey and Mr. George McCallum. there. Mr. & Mrs. Murray Lewis, London were Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Lewis. Phil Lewis drove Mr. & Mrs. Traher of London to Florida where they will be spending the winter months. Mr. Lewis will be returning via TCA after two weeks holiday with bis parents Mr. & Mrs. C. Lewis. Nathan Skinner London spent the weekend with his grand- parents and Janis. Ralph Simpson called on Bill and Florence Simpson on Mon- day. Michael Lewis is home from St. Joseph's Hospital after spending several days there for treatment. of the croup.
