BOTTLES GALORE -- Exeter Kinsmen conducted o bottle drive of the area Saturday to raise money for
sweaters for the Minor Hockey teams. About fifteen volunteers, including five boys from the minor hockey
teams mode a door to door canvass to collect bottles. The drop off pont v.,as the Exeter and District Co-op
and by 2 p.m. it was estimated that they hod collected 5175 worth of bottles. Here Kinsmen Jim Finkbeiner,

Ladies church groups meet

Granton
The January meeting was held
in the church hall with the
president, Mrs. Jack Noon in
the chair and leading in the
opening prayers and business.
Mrs. Jim Hodgins read the
scripture and Mrs. Percy
Hodgins and Mrs. Noon the
Litany.
Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Hodgins
who are moving to Lancaster
were the recipients of a gift of a
piece of furniture from the
church. Mrs. Hodgins on behalf of
Gordon and herself thanked
everyone for the nice gift.
UCW meeting
Mrs. Cliff McRobert was the
hostess for unit (1). Mrs. E.
Summers presided and opened
the meeting with the worship
service and meditation dealing
with self control. Each member
received her program for the
year. As it was this units turn to
greet at the church door this
month, arrangements were made
to have this taken care of. It was
mentioned how nice the new
carpet on the church steps
looked.
The program was in charge of
Mrs. Glen Jameson and Mrs.
Elmer Summers. Mrs. Jameson
read a paper on our sense of
values of right and wrong and
where to look for the in-
terpretation of these values, a
discussion resulted, and some
interesting points were brought
out.
Unit (3) met at the manse
where Rev. Mary Mclnally was
the hostess. Mrs. James Rid-
dell presided and also led the
worship and meditation, the
theme being Patience. Plans
were made for a bowling party,
also a visit to Wildwood Nursing
Home in February. Program
conveners Mrs. Mel Kay and
Mrs. Charles Hayden presented
an interesting program, the
subject being "How to look at
problems and how to live with
them and not miss their point.

Mrs. William Jones was the
hostess for unit (5). Mrs. Jones
presided and led the worship
which dealt with Patience or Self
Control. A draw took place for
"Mystery Pals" for 1975. The
catering for a wedding Was
discussed also plans to work on a
quilt. Mrs. Nelson Bilyea Sr. and
Mrs. C. McRobert were in charge
of the program. All mem-
bers contributed to the lunch.

United
At the United Church the
subject of Rev. Mary Mclnally's
sermon was "Christian
Discipline". Rev. Mclnally said
in her message "To be a disciple
of Christ you must take up your
cross and follow Him."
An announcement was made
concerning the forthcoming
March of Dimes campaign.
St. Thomas Anglican
At St. Thomas church Sunday
morning Rev. R. N. Savary
conducted the service and based
his sermon on the 2nd Chapter of
St. Matthew. the visit of the Wise
Men and the childhood of Christ
The annual vestry meeting was
announced for January 20 at 8
p.m.
Shower for Ruth Westman
On Friday evening a com-
munity shower for Ruth West -
man was held in the basement of
the United Church.
Mrs. Lloyd Mardlin and her
daughters Ruth and Sharon were
responsible for the entertainment
and serving lunch. Ruth whose
marriage to Larry Pratt of
Crediton takes place next
Saturday January 18 was
assisted in opening her gifts by
her bridesmaid -to -be Sharon
Pratt, Anne Marie and Karen
Beaucage.
A vocal solo was rendered by
Wendy Kloss, Sharon Mardlin
accompanied her on the piano.
Mrs. Laverne Morley read a
poem "What is a husband." Ruth
thanked everyone for the many
lovely gifts and invited all who
cared to come to the dance on the
night of her wedding.

Arthur Baker one of Granton's
oldest resident celebrated his
94th birthday on December 27.
Mr. Baker was honoured with a
tinnily dinner at the Garage
Restaurant London. Our
congratulations to a great gen-
tleman.
CWL to hold
progressive euchre
MT. CARMEL
The January meeting of the
C.W.L. was held last Tuesday
evening in school gym.
Mrs. Gregory Fleming,
president began with prayer;
Mrs. Bob Cuillerier read the
many "thank you" notes
received after Christmas. Mrs.
Bill McCann read minutes of the
last meeting and Mrs. Pat Glavin
gave financial report.
It was decided to have a
Progressive Euchre Party held
January 19 and proceeds to be
sent to "Poor Missions!" Ladies
are hoping for a large crowd.
Rev. Father J. Mooney P.P.
spoke to ladies and was grateful
for the ladies' work and gave a
report on necessary work to be
finished in the Rectory. Coffee,
lunch and a social half hour
brought meeting to a close.
Mr. & Mrs. Bill Inson, Huron
Park have taken up residence in
the farm home owned by Mr. &
Mrs. Jack McCann.
Mr. Wilfred Hogan is feeling
much better after being a shut-in
at his home for the past three
weeks.
