Explorers hold
first meeting
Members of the Lucan-
Clandeboye Explorers held their
first Expedition of 1975 on
Monday after school. Mary
Madden conducted the opening
ceremony and the roll call was
answered by naming the first
church attended.
Counsellor Mrs. Donald O'Neil
introduced the new study book
"Three into One" a story of the
uniting of the three
denominations to form one, and
the group began a mural of the
story which will be continued at
each of six or seven expeditions.

Intermediates get easy win,
midgets increase league lead

Monday night the Lucan Ho-
Jo's defeated a short staffed
Grosse Point team 13-5 in OHA
Intermediate 'C' play. The Ho-
Jo's opened the scoring with two
quick goals, one by Paul Young
and the other coming off the stick
of Dennis Burt. Bob MacDonald
assisted on the first goal while
newcomer, Bob Edwards,
assisted on the second.
Grosse Point pulled within one
goal but Tom Hodgins took a pass
from Walt Parkinson to give
Lucan a brief 3-1 lead. However,
before the first period ended the
score was tied 3-3 In the second
period the Ho-Jo's pulled away
with four unanswered goals. Bob
MacDonald started things off
with a solo effort while Walt
Parkinson scored on a shot from
the point with Jim Hearn
assisting.
Rick Daigle scored the sixth
Lucan goal with Edwards
assisting while Ron Lindenfield
scored the final goal of the
period, taking a pass from, Bob
Evans. Lucan scored the first two
goals of the third period with
Daigle and MacDonald scoring
with assists going to Burt,
Edwards and Hodgins.
Grosse Point then scored but
Bob MacDonald scored his third
goal of the game on an unassisted
effort only to have the visitors
score their final goal of the game
while Lucan scored three more,
two by Edwards and the other
goal went to Evans. Brian
Haskett assisted on two of the
goals and Dennis Burt on the final
goal. The Ho-Jo's outshot the
visitors 41-39 and took 7 of 9
penalties assessed.
Junior D
The Lucan Irish played three
junior OHA games over the week,
winning a pair and losing one.
Tuesday night in Mitchell the
Irish scored four goals in the first
period and six in the third as they
defeated Mitchell 10-5.
Ron Funston and i3rad England
paced the winners with two goals
each while singles went to Ed
Robb, Randy Kraul, Brad Taylor,
Mike McIntyre and Mike and
Marty Wraith. Lucan was outshot
34-26 while Mitchell took 17 of 29
penalties called. Kevin Lightfoot
made many exceptional saves in
the Lucan net.
Wednesday, Lucan defeated
Tavistock 8-6 in a game where
most of the scoring was confined
to the third period. Tavistock
opened up a 2-0 lead only to have
Lucan tie the score before the end
of the period on goals by Brad
England and Randy Kraul. In the
second period Lucan scored the
only two goals as Ed Robb and
Brad Taylor connected.
Robb gave Lucan a 5-2 lead
early in the third but Tavistock
narrowed the lead to one with a
pair of goals. Randy Kraul then
scored but Tavistock tied the
game up and with four minutes
remaining in the game it looked
like they might have a chance to
win when Lucan was assessed a 5
minute penalty for high -sticking.
However, Ron Funston scored
Church
"God's Messenger" (St. Pull)
was the theme of the message
given by Rev. Ewart Madden to
his congregation on Sunday,
when he told of the early
Christians starting their church
in Rome without a leader.
Confirmation classes will
commence next Sunday evening,
January 19, at 7 p.m. in the C.E.
Building. -
Rehearsals for the Bach
Cantata have commenced with
several members from other
churches attending. More men's
voices are needed. If you like to
sing, come to the Church at 9
tonight, Thursday.
Mrs. A. Jones was the soloist in
a beautiful choir number "The
.Lone Wild Bird."
Pentecostal Holiness
The soloist at the morning
service on Sunday was Joan
Lockyer, accompanied on the
piano by Mrs. John Armitage
who also played for the
songservices morning and
evening, ied by her husband,
John.
Rev. Ray Brewster, speaking
from Malachi 3, stated that
everyone who comes to the Lord
must go through a refining,
purifying process to be the person
God wants them to be.

on a breakaway and Gary Herr
added the insurance goal into an
empty net with one second left in
the game. Lucan outshot the
Braves 45-30 and took 9 of the 16
penalties assessed.
Sunday afternoon Exeter built
up a 3-0 lead and then held on to
defeat Lucan 3-2. Randy Funston
and Craig Corman were the
Lucan marksmen with their
goals coming in the third period.
Juvenile
Sunday night the Lucan
juveniles posted an 8-5 victory
over the visiting Exeter team.
Cecil Nickles led the locals with
three goals while linemate Jim
Benn contributed two more.
Single goals went to Gerald
Spruyt, Brian Noyes and Gord
Moon.
Midget
The Lucan Midgets increased
their first place standing with a
convincing 7-1 victory over the
second place Belmont team. Jim
Benn scored five goals and one
assist while Cecil Nickles added a
goal and five assists to pace the
winners. Gord Moon added the
other Lucan goal.
Don Latta and Rick Freeman
each had two assists while Albert
Thompson assisted on one goal.
Lenny Anderson played well in
the Lucan nets and had his bid for
a shutout ended when Belmont
scored early in the second period.
Lucan took 10 of 16 penalties
called.
Pee -wee
The Lucan pee-wees dropped a
3-0 decision to St. Thomas as the
visitors scored three times in the
third period for the victory. Both s,
teams took 2 penalties apiece.
Atom
The Lucan Atoms ran - into
some hot goaltending as they
were shutout 3-0 by the visiting
Huron Park team in a game
played Saturday.
Bantam
The Lucan Bantams handgd
Belmont their second loss of tl'ie`
season as they edged out the
visiting team 4-3. Kyle Pederson
opened the scoring. for Lucan
midway through the first period
with Martin Duenk assisting.
Belmont tied the score just over a
miniq later and the teams
remained tied heading into the
middle period. In the second
period Lucan scored three
unanswered goals with the first
two corning off the stick of Calvin
McCallum.
Martin Duenk and Dean
Densmore assisted on the first
while Martin Clarke set up the
second goal. Clarke then came
back to score late in the second
for the eventual winner with
Pederson assisting. The third
period was all Belmont and only
some good saves by Lucari
goallender, Mike Stanley,
preserved the win. Lucan took 3
of 5 minor penalties.
Lucan Lions house league
The Aces and Sabres battled to
a 6-6 bantam tie with Brent
Stainton leading the way for the
Aces with two goals while singles
went to Dave Cook, Bill Siddall,
Barry Mills and Bob Toonders.
Six players accounted for the
Sabres goals with Terry Holmes,
Jim Hardie, Marty VanPraet,
John Toonders, Colin Wildfong
and Leroy Siddall scoring.
In pee -wee action the Lions and
the Raiders battled to a 1-1 tie •
while the Thunderbirds edged the
Blazers 2-1. Int the final game the
Barons defeated the Bombers 5-1.
Ken Cocquyt scored the lone goal
for the Lions while CraigDeGraw
replied for the Raiders.
Goals by Ron Barr and Andrew
Markus gave the Thunderbirds
the victory over the Blazers while
Alex Jones scored the one goal
for the losers. Tod Wade was the
top goal getter or the Barons
with a pair whil singles went to
Chris Sockett, eff
and Greg Fisher. Ray Thompson
accounted for the lone Bomber
goal.
In Atom play the Cougars and
Wildcats played to a 1-1 tie while
in the other game- the Jets
defeated the Bears 3-1. Brad!
VanGeel scored for the Cougars
while Les Arnts replied for the
Wildcats.
Single goals by Tim Shipley,
John Graves and Jess Crawford
proved to be too much for the
Bears' Dalton Dykeman scored
for the 'were.

At 8.30 p.m. on Highway 7,
about a half mile west of High-
bury Avenue, a vehicle driven by
Marinus Kanter, Strathroy,
struck a 250 pound doe when it
crossed the roadway.
The animal was destroyed.
Constable W. R. Disher
estimated damage to the Kanter
vehicle at $250.
In the second mishap on high-
way 4, just north of the London
city limits, a 200 pound doe was
instantly killed when in collision
with a vehicle driven by Ronald.

Constable W. T. Hodgins was
the investigating officer and
listed damages at $150. Sunday at
12.50 p.m. six persons were in-
jured in a two car crash on High-
way 7 at the Denfield sideroad
intersection.
Drivers of the vehicles involved
were Helen Hillier, London and
Winstmi Churchill, RR 2 Ailsa
Craig. Constable G. N. Wilcox set
damages at $4.000.
Vehicles driven by Ronald
Malloch, RR 2 Denfield, and
Lyall Trenholm, Ilderton,
•collided on County road 16, just
east of County road 20 at 9.15 a.m.
Monday.
Constable D. R. Vance listed
damages at $550.
Also Monday, vehicles driven
by Peter Kinnear. Staten Island,
New York and Bonnie Desroches,
RR 5 Lucknow, were in collision
on Highway 4 at Elginfield.
Constable N. A. Campbell set
damages at $400.
During the week officers of the
Lucan OPP detachment in-
vestigated 41 occurrences. They
laid 33 charges under the High-
way Traffic Act and issued
warnings to 35 other motorists.

To earn their 2nd stars the
"Red Star girls" are to learn the
Explorer Hymn "This is My
F'ather's World", the "Blue Star"
girls will compose a scrapbook
"Wonders of God's World", to be
in by March 1, and the "Gold
Star" girls will write a short
story on a given topic.
