WILLIAM THAMESROHDE ROAD The January meeting of the United Church Women was held on Monday evening in the church basement with Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne as hostess. Rev. Barry Robinson con- ducted the Installation Service. He read 1 Corinthians 12-26. We were all inducted into our offices. Rev. Barry Robinson closed with prayer. Mrs. Murray Dawson, program convener, opened the meeting witj a verse on The New Year. She also gave the "Call to Wor- ship." Mrs. Jack Stewart read the scripture lesson. Mrs. Mac Hodgert gave the meditation. A poem "New Horizons," by Mrs. Stewart. Mrs. Mac Hodgert spoke on Eskimos and of her trip to Alaska last summer. Mrs. Dawson led in responsive reading with Mrs. Hodgert and Mrs. Stewart giving the response. Mrs. Dawson gave the closing thought and she told of their trip last summer out West through the USA and Alaska. Mrs. Dawson and Mrs. Hodgert showed pictures of their trip. They also had souvenirs such as mitts, fox collars, crude oil, oopiks, owls, canned fish,. etc. Mrs. Webber president gave a thought on New Year's. The minutes, roll call, cards of thanks, treasurer's report, card report were given. The sick visiting committee for next three months are Group U, Mrs. Barry Jeffery, Group C, Mrs. Jack Borland, Group W. Mrs. Donald Kernick. DAVID KESTLE CLANDEBOYE On Saturday evening Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Blake, Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Isaac were dinner guests with Mr. & Mrs. Harry Gilbert, London. Twenty friends and relatives later gathered at the Gilbert home and presented Lucille and Arnold with an 8 track stereo tape player on the occasion of their 30th wedding anniversary. ucw Clandeboye United Church Women had their January meeting at the home of Mrs. W. Scott. Mrs. C. Coughlin opened the meeting with a prayer and a hymn. She announcecli the Presbyterial to be held February 13 at Metropolitan United Church, London and the annual church meeting to be held February 2 at the church. Mrs. eoughlin took the program. The February meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. R. Williams. Persona Is Mrs. L. Mr & Mrs. John Lapadat, Former Shipka resident passed away in London By MRS. HUGH MORENZ SHIPKA Funeral services were held last Monday for Mrs. Margaret Ann tHotson) Finkbeiner, who passed away December 27, in St. Joseph's hospital, London. Her husband, Lorne, predeceased her in 1943. She is survived by one son Harold Finkbeiner of RR 2 Dash- wood, two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Lila) Rosser and Miss Audrey Finkbeiner both of London, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Service was held at Needham Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert Robinson of Central Baptist church officiating. Interment was at Crediton cemetery and refreshments were served after by the Crediton United Church ladies. For many years Mr. Sr Mrs. Finkbeiner farmed just north of Shipka and after her husband's death she retired to live in London. • Pallbearers were four grand- sons, Bill, Bob and Dave Fink- beiner, Michael Rosser. Ken Murphy and Graham Benwaw. Holiday visitors Mrs. Elsie Comfort of Welland is spending some holidays with her three daughters and families in this area. When Dick arrived in Canada from Holland. the home of Mr. & Mrs. Vandenburg was the first place he stayed. Esther Snyder of Kitchener spent the weekend with her parents Mr. Si Mrs. Ferman Snyder. Marshall Town, Iowa spent several days with Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Blake and other rela tives. Mrs. J. Donaldson attended the funeral of a friend in St. Thomas on Wednesday. Mrs. Ed Armstrong was ad- mitted to St. Joseph's Hospital New. Year's Day. She underwent surgery Thursday morning and is progressing favourably. Mr. & Mrs. A. Thompson, Mr. & Mrs. W. Simpson, Mr. & Mrs. K. Thompson were New Years Day visitors with their mother, Mrs. A. Simpson. Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Simpson and family London, Mr. & Mrs. Keith Simpson and David were New Years Day guests with Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Simpson. Mr. & Mrs. Neil Amies, Tom and Dave who spent the holidays at their cottage on White Stone Lake north of Parry Sound returned home on New Years Day. Mr. & Mrs. Harry Rowswell London were weekend guests with the Amies. The year end party for the many employees of J and T Murphy Bus Company was held at the Shillelagh. About two hundred and thirty enjoyed the turkey dinner. The remainder of the evening was spent dancing. Mr. & Mrs. Stu Castle were among some of the many travellers who enjoyed the Florida Sunshine for ten days. Mr. & Mrs. Terry" Wade and boys spent two weeks vacationing in Florida. Mrs. D. -Joyce and George Taylor Windsor called for a visit with Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Der- byshire last Saturday. Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Millson entertained Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Millson and Don of Guelph, Mr. & Mrs. E. Glavin and Leona, Huron Park and Mr. & Mrs. G. Millson on the occasion of Mrs. Ralph Millson's birthday. St. James Anglican Church group were on Act Fast January 5th. Mrs. C. Carter very ably did the charade and the group brought $150 home. George Robertson returned to Vancouver B.C. where he will continue his studies. Mr. & Mrs. D. Kestle and Janis visited with Mr. & Mrs. Herb Rook, Komoka on Sunday af- ternoon. Hans Rosch and 'Mrs. Keyes, H3 de Park, motored to Ottawa and spent several days with Mr. & Mrs. J. Rosch and family. Carol Cunningham was ad- mitted to St. Joseph's Hospital to undergo surgery.
