Letters to the Editor
To Grand Bend Reeve and Council:
I .would prefer to be at Council in
person to clean up a misunderstand-
ing about . my appointment to
S.W.O.T.A. but unfortunately, I
cannot 'keep up with changes in
Council -meetings. However, I will
do mybest to clear it' up on paper.
The Southwestern Ontario Travel
Association (S.W.O;T.A.) is com-
posed of 24 people representing
eight counties in South Western.
Ontario. These people arc not neces-
sarily picked Cron-) the political'
field, but in some cases are, exam-
ple, myself from Lambton, Tom
Tomes from Huron and a 'Councilor
from Pt. Stanley representing Elgin
County.
The other two representing Lamb -
ton County are Bob Harris from the
St. Clair Pkwy. and the Manager of
the Drawbridge Inn Restaurant, in
Sarnia. Considering- that there are
only three -people representing all of
Lambton County, , it is advanta-
geous for a Municipality to have
one of its own on this Committee •
which is whythc Municipality sup-
ports their members with Commit-
tee Pay.
I had. spoke to S.W.O.T.A. at the
•
November meeting and had told
them that Gram! Bend Council
might not support me financially
after this meeting, and consequently
I -might not continue as a Director
of S.W.O.T.A., should that occur,
hence the letter from S.W.O.T.A.,
should that occur, hence the letter
from S.W.O.T.A. and request by
myself for Council's continued`sup-
port for the remainder of my term.
Since then, I have reconsidered and
have informed S.W.O.T.A. that I
shall finish my term which ends, in
May.
Lambton County S.W.O.T.A.
members arc selected.by a selection
Committee of S.W:O.T.A. from
people recommended by the Sarnia.
Lambton Tourist Committees. I
have been a mornber of S.W.O.T.A.
for the past six years, the first three
years on the recommendations of
the Tourist Committee and the last
three years- at the request of
S.W.O.T.A. I have enjoyed every
minute of it.
i have been a member of the Sar-
nia Lambton Tourist Committee for
the past twelve years. This commit-
tee consists of sixteen 'people repre-
senting municinalities throughout
Lambton County. Some are mem-
bers of Council, members of Cham-
bers of Commerce, Museums, Ho-
tels, Restaurants and any other
tourism related facilities.
These people are appointed by the
various Councils and report directly
to those. Councils. They do not
have any particular term, and canbe,
replaced at any -time by the council
that is, in fact, paying the ,bills. I
resigned from this committee at the
November meeting, as I reasoned
that the Council would wish, and
rightly so, someone -of their choice
to represent Grand Bend at this lev-
el.
I hope 'that i have been able to
clear up this misunderstanding to
Council's satisfaction. If there are
any questions, I would certainly be
happy to answer them. -
Although i realize it was not their
fault, I would also appreciate it if
the Exeter Times Advocate would
print a clarification of their headline
anti article regarding this matter.

council but is printed here with the
permission of Mr. Green.
