Panthers take two of three By Michelle Ellison Last Tuesday, South Huron Dis- trict High School's boys' basketball teams hosted league games against Stratford Central. The locals came away with two -out -of -three wins. South Huron's only loss was with the midget Panthers. After two periods of play, the Panthers were 26-22. Unfortunately, the boys= couldn't catch Central, losing 57- 44. Terry 'Gentile!. led SH with 14 points. Jason Heywood and Mark Russel each added 10 and six points respectively. The Junior Panthers played a competitive game against Stratford winning 57-44. The Panthers held a slight lead at half time but the team HENSALL MOTORS LTD. Ian Vcrbeek played very well and was SH's top scorer with 19 points. Jason Clarke had 14, Steve DuBarry eight and John -Paul Maurer added seven. SH's Senior boys played tense basketball game against the Rams but the Panthers came out on top of a tight 65-63 action. The team came from behind a 39- 29 score at half time. Rob Pearon and Rob Wonnacott had some ex- cellent shots with little time left oh the clock, to take the 65-63 win. Pcaren played a supt;rb game and led the team to victory with 31 points. Jim Dickens had nine and Wonnacott and Scott Hem each had seven. All three teams travel to Strath- roy on Wedrtesday, January 4 for exhibition games and will also continue league play on January 5 at Stratford Central. Silver Stick &el/et PARKHiLL - The Exeter Novice Waxers played in the Parkhill Silver Stick tournament on Saturday and tied one contest and lost a pair of others. They also met Parkhill in Shamrock League play on Sunday and lost 4-0. • • The Waxers lost 2-1 to Petrolia in the first game of the tournament. Each team scored once in the sec- ond period after a scoreless first per- iod with Mark Parsons connecting for the locals, from 'Geoff Maver and Greg Geoffrey. Petrolia got the winning goal at 3:35 of the third. Exeter and New Hamburg played to a 2-2 tie in the second match. Both Exeter goals came in the second. Parsons connected from Luke -Sims and Jeff MacLean and MacLean scored froni Greg Geof- frey. Those two teams met again in the third game, this time New Hamburg came out on top 4-2. MacLean hit for both goals in the game for Exeter, c3nc ♦;vent unassist- ed and one was from David Farquhar and Scott Rasenbcrg. Exeter- lost . 4-0 to Parkhill in league play on Sunday with Wayne Conway come up with the shutout for Parkhill. - The Toss drops the Waxers' league record to 6-8-2. The teams will-pjay a best -of -three ser- ies apart from their regular league schedule' and dates for the series are to be set this week by the two teams.
