UCW was held in the church's ladies parlor on Monday, December 5 with 38 members and four visitors present. Helen Coates, unit leader, opened the meeting with a poem entitled "The Gift of God's Love". Correspondence was read from Ju- lie Lee from the Survival Through Friendship Houses in Goderich who .was our speaker at the November meeting, when she had received a great many things to take back to the house with her. The roll call at fiat meeting was to brim some- thing for the S.T.F. house. This meeting, the members were to bring something fpr the Christ- mas Bureau. Pauline Lingard was the guest speaker. She is the coordi- nator for the Christmas Bureau this . year. Exeter United Church is the depot or dropping -off centre. Alma Godbolt and Audrey McGregor are in charge and were asking for help. Each recipient can have one new toy. one pair of mitts and one piece of new clothing and a bag of grocer- ies. There wit' be about 80 families coming to receive: Carol Moore opened the worship part of the meeting with a reading entitled "Christmas Spirit". Joy to the World was sung followed by the scripture reading from Luken. Ruth Jeffery, Mavis Atthill, Betty Clark, Pat Down, Audrey Mregor and Susan McGregor each talked about Christmas customs in Germa- ny, Netherlands, The Ukraine, Aus- tria, France, Great Britain and Cana- da and showed sone of their -symbols. Silent Night was sung and Carol led in.prayer. The offering was received followed by a short prayer.' Betty •Clark, bazaar convener re- ported that the bazaar was a' great success for another year. Christmas Bureau EXETER - This year Exeter Unit- ed Church hosted the Christmas Bu- reau for Exeter and arca. Donations of groceries were" tremendous, al- lowing us to give a large hamper of groceries to each family. Donations of new toys and new clothing al- lowed each child to have one new toy and one piece of clothing plus -various small stocking-stuffcrs. Do- nations of money went to purchas- ing a turkey for .each family and some of thc new clothing. Good used clothing, some fresh from the cleaners, was gladly ac- cepted to help with winter war- drobes. Good used toys also found a new home. Thanks to the many volunteers who helped at the bureau and all those who donated individually or through churches, schools and ser- vice clubs. This year, thc Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario has a healthy alternative for your holiday enter- taining menu.
