Prom all of us at ' ■�� wl residents gathered in the activity room for our thrice weekly exercise session. thank you to Reverend Hawley of Exeter United Church for an interesting message at our Tues- day aftemoon church service. Luel- la Hall read our scripture mes§age on "Joy" while we lit our Third Ad- vent Candle, followed by "Joy to the World" sung by the whole con- ' gregation. In the evening we were - treated to a program by fifteen members of the Seafonh Harmony Kings. They were absolutely fabu- lous. With no instrumental accom- paniment every -word came through beautifully and clear. Thanks to the video taping skills of Bill Gibson, residents were able to view on Wednesday a tape of our family Christmas -dinner and pro- gram. It was -fun to review such a happy family time. Eighty! Yes 80 energetic eager and talented Hensall Public School children sang for residents on Thursday morning. Their program was appreciated by everyone. Xe sure hope you all found the right boots when you left. - Thursday evening, Hessenland Restaurant was the scene of our Staff Christmas Dinner. We all en- joyed a beautiful smorgasbord meal and afterward exchanged gifts. Friday afternoon baking club met and the scent of fresh baked scones wafted through the, west wing. We had a few staff visit us for a sample as they were going off duty. Coming events are December 23 at 7 p.m. our Resident Christmas Party and December 31 at 2:30 p.m. our New Years Eve Party. Farewell to Rosies On December 14, the Crediton Women's Institute came at the Ste- phen Township Hall bearing food and gifts as they gathered for their annual December pot luck supper meeting. The feature of the evening was a most interesting talk on New Zea- land by exchange teacher Robyn Rosie assisted by her daughter Lia- na. Th`e Rosie family have lived in Crediton for the past year and we wish them well as they return to New Zealand. Members were full of questions about life in New Zealand and their problems in the field of agriculture, comparing them with our own. The evening finished with the ex- change of gifts from secret pals. Back in time 10 years ago -Exeter's Santa Claus parade came late in 1978, but council praised the 64 entries. Winners of the float judging were the Sunshine Kids Nursery School, Exeter Kinsmen, and a float entitled Toyland that parade chairman Mike Williamson was having trouble finding out who sponsored it. •Exeter council endorsed the idea for redeveloping the community park at an estimated cost of $54,100. •Hensall councillor Harry Klungel was given until spring to move a storage shed that was built in violation of village bylaws and without a building permit. Klungel said he was told buildings under 100 square feet did not require permits. •The Exeter Hawks came up with three straight wins to move to the top of the Junior D league. Jeff Caldwell scored four goals in one game alone against Bothwell. 20 years ago •Emie Pym recalled the Christmas of 1904: "We were up at daylight to find our stockings. Oh yes, they were the kind that came above the knee. They were filled with homemade candy, the never tribe forgotten maple sugar, and one toy....When supper time came we thought we couldn't eat another thing more until we saw those pies, cakes, home canned fuit and cookies that only grandmother could make." •Fred Howe was shown in a picture with one of the giant lemons he was growing in his Centralia greenhouse. •Exeter Public School students, during the height of the Apollo program, gave their rendition of Christmas on the moon for their annual Christmas concert. 100 years ago •A letter from Bill Nye appeared in the Times on the question of whether women may propose marriage: "I do n why woman should not propose if she so elect, and then s fcr the bitter, bitter consequence. '•South Huron was still little mote than a frontier settlement in 1888, thus the Times was filled with very little to mark the holiday season. Christmas would have been a one -day luxury, with matters of adequate food, and warm shelter through the winter months foremost in people's minds and foremost in their newspaper. aintsburY by Mrs. Heber Davis SAINTSBURY - Rev. Beverly Wheeler conducted Holy Commun- ion service early Sunday morning. Julie Carroll was server, Sheryl Carroll pianist and Sheryl and Mar- garct Carroll were readers. Ryan Carroll lit the advent candles. Rev. Wheeler spoke on the mys- tery of Jesus birth. Service at St. Patricks is planned for 6:30 o'clock Christmas eve. Please note the Lutan Seniors LUCAN - On Thursday, Decem- ber 15 Lucan Seniors held their an- nual Christmas Dinner in the Le- gion Hall. It was catered by the Legion Auxiliary and the ladies served a very delicious meal of tur- key and all the trimmings. Before and after the meal we were entertained by Mrs. Lewis an(' Mr. Lee on the violin and guitar with music of the season. A skit was put on by Mabel Needham and Hamilton Hodgins. This was enjoyed. by all. Gifts were exchanged and holiday greet- ings were exchanged by all. The Seniors had a jolly time. Dashwood by Bernice Boyle 'DASHWOOD - The Calvary nitcd Church Sunday school pre- sented the Christmas Story during Sunday's morning service. Ginger Weber and her kindergarten class welcomed everyone to the Ad- vent service. Charlene Edwards primary class told the story of Christmas to the congregation. Personals Mary Rader accompanied by June and Fred Miller went to Ailsa Craig to attend her sister Alice and Well - wood Gill's 59th Anniversary. . time. Voyle Jordan plans to leave in the near future for a holiday in Florida. Shc has been busy entertaining gucsts before leaving including, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barker, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Davis, on Tuesday eve- ning, Mcsscrs Lcs Wilson, Gote Wennerstrom and Mary Davis on Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. Tindall, Friday and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Greenlee, Sunday.
