Junior Ringette team lore in Mitchell final MITCHELL - The Exeter Junior Ringette team made it to the finals of a tournament in Mitchell on the weekend but lost in the champion- ship game 8-7 to Seaforth. Exeter bombed St. Marys in their first game 9-2. Julia Merner led the way with four goals, Tiffany Tryon had three and Becky Morgan had a pair. Elizabeth Coates, Tryon, Chris- tine Chappel, Jayne Rowe and Mor- gan each had a pair of assists and Barbie Martley pitched in one. Exeter and Seaforth played to a 8- 8 draw in the second round of play. Chappel, Merner and Morgan scored twice in this game, while Becci Farquhar and Tryon chipped in with one each. • Tryon and Bryden Gryseels each had a pair of assist and singles went to Chappel, Coates and Morgan with one each. Exeter edged St. Thomas in their next contest 11-10, getting the win- ning goal with less than two min- utes to play. Once again, Merner led the way with six goals, Tryon had three tal- lies and Jarmel Papple and Gryseels had one goal each. Gryseels set up four of Merner's six tallies, and one each went to Coates, Merner and Chappel. In the championship game, Sea - forth picked up the winning goal with less than five minutes left in the contest. Scoring for the locals were; Far- quhar from Chappel, Merner from Martley, Gryseels from Farquhar, Merner from Farquhar, Farquhar from Gryseels, Gryseels unassisted and Merner from Farquhar. Each team was asked to supply one player for a shootout contest and Merner took part for Exeter and she received a trophy for her effort. Brian Hodgins arid Bob McDonald led the way with two goals each, while Ernie Ahrens notched four as- sists. Brian, Hodgins had two as- sists and Bob McDonald one. On Monday they beat the Clinton Colts 7-3. Ahrens nad thtee goals to lead the Molting Hawks, while Ken Berg- mann, Bob McDonald, Scott Bur- ton and Pete McFalls added singles. Bob Jones, just recovering from a cold, notched three assists. while Bob McDonald and Walt Tiedeman SHAP Budget committed TORONTO - The entire budget of the Seasonal Housing Assistance Program has been committed to help Ontario farmers provide better seasonal housing for workers. All the funds of the federal - provincial program,' including the original S800,00 and an additional S300,000, have now been fully al- located, said Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food director Norm MacLeod. At this point, anyone who con- structs or renovates housing does so with no assurance of assistance, MacLeod said. The three-year program, scheduled to end in March, 1989, pays 50 per- cent of costs for renovation or con- struction of approved housing for seasonal farm workers, to a maxi- mum of $10,000 per grower.
