vu.for the Exeter Mohawks Sunday

tre. Only this time it •worked- in
their favor.
-On Saturday,' November 5, •the
Harriston Blues beat the Mohawks
7-6 in Harriston, with Tim Fritz
getting die winning goal with. five
• seconds left.
On Sunday, Quincy Wilkerscored
• for the Ivtohawks•with five seconds
left to beat the Blues 7-6.
The Mohawks have not lost since
then,.. -upping their winning streak
to nine games with the victory on

winning goal. Sunday night with
five seconds left as the Mohawks
edged the Harriston Blues 7-6 at
the SI1RC.

"A few more games like that and
my beard will start to turn grey,"
said Mohawk coach Gord Brooks. ,
"We just stood around 'and
watched them come to us after we
had built a Icad, hoping Billy
(Dark) would make the save. We
played the body really well in the
first period and stopped for the last
two but unfortunately it took a -ty-
ing goal by them for,_us to work
hard again and get the winner."
The Mohawks had not played
since December 4 when they beat
the Elora Rocks 6-2 and Brooks felt
the week .off didn't help his team
much.
"Having a week off. really hurt us.
We had to kill so many penalties
and guys were getting cold and
maybe some legs got stiff out
there. • But we should have .more
than one game each week, " said
Brooks. • '
As Brooks said, the. Mohawk~
dominated the play in the first peri-
od, corning out with a 4-2 lead at
the first intermission: But the Blues
came on and trailed 5-4 atter the.
second. .
After the Mohawks took a 6-4
lead on John Kernick's goal mid
way through the' final period, the
-Blues'fought back and • eventually
tied the game with less than -six
minutes. to play. Each team had
soine good chances to gct_lhc -go-

Elliot scored the only goal of the
second' for the Mohawks, at 34

In the third, the Mohawks•went
up 6-4 on John Kcrnick's power-
play- tally, from .Gates and McClen-
aghan at.10:47, and Wilker's hero-
ics came with • five seconds 'left,
front Randerson and Barton.
The Mohawks have a home -and -
home -series with the Elora Rocks
this weekend. Friday night the .Mo-.
hawks travel to Elora and .Sunday
night at 7:30, the Rocks roll into

The Mohawks will be sponsoring
•a fan bus for their January 7 game
in Credsiiorc. The $40 cost will pay
for round trip -bus -to Barrie, game
tickets in Creemore and the hotel

will leave the SIIRC at 11 a.m. on

Inn in Barrie, which has an indoor

Pacers tied for first
HURON PARK The Huron
Park Pacers remain tied for first
place with -the London Devilettes in
Western Ontario Women's -Hockey.
League play.
The Pacers 'played to a 2-2 tie
with the London Royals and then -
:ouldn't break a 3-3 deadlock with
Port Stanley on home ice last .Sat-
lyday.
Notching the three goals for thc
Pacers against Port Stanley were:
Linda Mahood, Yvonne Wells and
Theresa McGee.
The .two .ties. leave- the Pacers
with a 3-1-2 record heading into
their. final weekend before Christ-
mas break.
The Pacers play host to the Lon-
don Royals this Saturday at 8:30
p.m. at the 'Stephen .Township are-
na and then fact the London Devil -
cues at Argyle arena on Sunday.
Panthers beat Seaforth

EXETER - South Huron District
High School was the host of three.
exhibition boys basketball games
last Tuesday. The Panthers wel-
comed Seaforth to their home court
where the Panthers claimed three
victories.
The Midget- boys thumped Sea -
forth to continue a very successful
scasott so far. The Panthers rt!t-
played their opponents to Win. 74-
44.
Leading .the Panthers to victiory
was Jason Heywood and Randy
Johnson with, 16 points a piece.
Matt Licrman also added 10.
. South Huron's Junior, boys also
had little difficulty against Seaforth.
Ian Verbcek and Jason Clarke had
an excellent rebounding game and
Verbeck was top scorer with 19
points. Clarke and Jeremy Hmdka
followed with eight points each.
. The Senior Panthers played very
well against Seaforth managing a
56-43 victory.
Rob Pearen played an outstanding
game, scoring 24 . points. Scott
"Hein and Tim McAllister followed
with 10 and .12 points respectively.
All • three teams met Stratford
Central on Tuesday and will host
league games on T•hiursday against
Listowel
Hockey Panthers beat

EXETER - South Huron High
School's hockey Panthers' met the
Seaforth Golden Bears at home on
Friday for a league game. After a
slow start, the Panthers took over
to win 7-1.

After two periods of play.
The third period brought seven
goals for South Huron. Mark Bur-
ton managed to get two behind Pat-
terson and Henri DeBruyn also put
two more in thc net for thc Pan-
thers. Rob McKnight and Tcrry
Hoffman had singles in the game
and Shawn Moore hit thc net on a
break away.
The team is now two for two this
season and hopefully will continue
to be competitive in Huron -Perth
play.

Irish increase first -place lead

week, the Lucan Irish increased the
first -place -lead to five points by

Icy Apple Jacks 6-3 at the Lucan
Arena
The Irish sit in first place in the
North Division standings, five
points up on the Mitchell Hawks
and 10 points in front of the Exeter
Hawks, Tavistock Braves and Brus-
sels Bulls, who are all tied for -third
spot.
The Irish were down 1-0 after the
first period against Wellesley but
