'Sing Noel` gets good review
By Rob Robillard.
-EXETER - On Sunday afternoon,
December 4, it was my pleasure to
attend Sing Noel, the annual
Christmas concert of the New Hu-
ronia Singers This year, their mu-
sical guests were the Stratford Boy-
, choir
A capacity audience was treated to
an afternoon of Christmas Choral
- selections.
The program was introduced by
- the warm and humorous comments
of Rev. Rick Hawley, Master of
Ceremonies:The Huronran Singers
followed with their first set of piec-
es.
The choir, under the direction of
Susan Graham took sometime to
warm up to the rhythmically chal-
lenging first number Jesus Child.
The remainder of the first .set was.
much better.
Communication 'between choir
and conductor Graham was musicat-
ly superb. • The inclusion of a
French carol was a nice touch.

Brian Emery, the conductor since
1986, displayed an immense
amount of drive ;rind energy leading
the. 35 boys in this performance.
My favourite was the rendition of
Three -Spanish Carols which al-
lowed the boys to show their musi-
cality.
After intermission, the talented
musical accompanists got the op-
portunity to display their skills., •
This arca is fortunate to have peo-
file like JulieEasterbrook and
Ralph Topp. Their musicality as
keyboard artists was obvious, and
appreciated by the audience.
The two choirs joined together to
perform two numbers. Personally 1
enjoyed the first, Boy Child of Mar,
the most because of the good bal-
ance of sound in the ensembles. -
' By the audience the duet featuring
Susan Graham's soprano and Brian
Emery's tenor was the highlight of
the afternoon. They performed the
classical Christmas favourite, 0
Holy. Night. Their performance
was very pleasing,
The program ended with thc New.
Huronia Singers performing three
well arranged numbers very capa-
bly.
apa-
My personal favourite was thc
performance of Hoist's Christmas
Day. This piece is,very demanding
for a choir. Difficult rhythms, iso
latitin of the various voice parts and
communication between choir and
conductor arc essential for an excel-
lent performance. All were present.
The entire second set was well
done and a joy to listen to.
