Slo-Pitch 'B' Division
VARNA - On September 28, Hill
and Hill Farms Ball Team won the
"B" Division of the South Huron
Slow Pitch League, with a thrilling
10-9 win against the Zurich Rock-
ers to win the best of five series,
three games to two.
Lorne "Mr. September" Taylor
smashed a double to score the win-
ning runs in the top of the ninth in-
ning to seal the victory. He told re-
porters after the game it was.

Friday,'September 30, Com-
mencement was held at Clinton
High School and the following
girls received awards.
Congratulations to Julie Webster
on receiving an Ontario Scholarship
for having over 80 percent average,
the W.D. Fair Scholarship Award
for being in the top six of the grade
13 Class and the Grade 13 French
Award for having the highest
marks. Julie is now attending the
rniversity of Western Ontario and
.s received a $1,000 Scholarship
from the University. Congratula-
tions Julie.
Congratulations to Jeanette Keys
whom received the Ontario Scholar
and the Family Studies Award.
Jeanette is attending Wilfrid Laurier
University in Waterloo.
Congratulations also to Tracy
Hayter whom tied for first on the
top Chemistry Award in Grade 12.
Meetings
• The Varna 4-H club was held
Monday September 26 ai the home
of Vicki Wilder. Discusion was
-on the quality of meat which is
more tenter or tough on the differ-
ent parts of the carcass. The recipe
they baked was baked pork and
peaches which. tasted very good.

held Thursday, (c-ftober 6 at 8 p.m.
There is to be a guest .,beaker from
Women Today. Goshen are most
welcome to attend around 8:45.
Varna Youth Group meet at the
manse at 730 p.m. on Thursday,
October 6.
Personals
On Wednesday evening Wayne
and Joan Bcierling and family host-
ed a supper for•Bill and Mcrt Barry
from Cochrane Ontario. Joan's
mom and stepfather, Donna and
Howard Smale were also guests.
On Sunday evening a family
birthday dinner was held at the
Triple A in Exeter- in honor of
Wayne's and Bill's birthdays which
are both on October 5. A total of
17 attended this dinner.

Golden Glimpses
ZURICH - On Tuesday evening,
the ladies of Grand Bend United
Church sponsored the September
birthday, party. After an enjoyable
sing -time, birthday gifts were pre-
sented, courtesy of the Ladies Aux-
iliary of the Home. Residents hav-
ing birthdays during the month of
September were: Mrs. Jessie
Brock, Miss Minnie Hern, Mr.
Lorne Fleischauer and Mrs. Wil-
liam Ziler.
On Thursday afternoon, Mr. Marc
Chalut was the chauffeur for the
Residents as they took a bus tour of
the Pinery. He explained the scen-
ery as they drove which was very
pleasant; especially for those of the
Residents who were not tamiliar
with the area.
Residents who were out during
the week were: Mr. Aaron Ginge-
rich, George Skinner, Mabel Glenn,
Elizabeth'Gingerich, Myrtle Deitz,
Ruth Warner, Harvey Keys, Francis
Dunn, Marcella Dietrich, Jean Le-
vine, Alice Ferg, Anthony Regier,
Loftus Denomme, Edna Johnston,
Margaret Snell and Gen.' ucbarme.
Mrs. Anne Willert is a patient in
St. Joseph's Hospital. We wish her
a speedy recovery.
The Sunday evening chapel ser-
vice was conducted byRev. Ste-
phen Alles of St. Peter's Lutheran
church, Zurich.
