StanLee Club entertains

VARNA - On Thursday Septem-
ber 21 the Stan -Lee Club arranged
some entertainment for Huronview
residents. Anna Keys played some
familiar songs as the residents gath-
ered• in the auditorium. Bob Reid
was chairman for the_ program.- A
group of ladies including Norene
Hayter, Ruby Treibner, Jean Hen-
derson, Evelyn McKinley, Helen.
Taylor, Linda Linfield and Barbara
Moffat sang "Peggy O'Neil",
"Memories", "It Is So Sweet", and
"Amazing Grace".
Anna Keys and Norene Hayter
were leading characters in a skit,
"On The Way to Huronview". Even
their "Buick Car" was on the stage.
Everything that could happen, hap-
pened. First Anna thought she had
forgotten her purse but they did find
it amongst the cookie tins in the
trunk. A tire went flat near Bruce -
field, but Aldie Mustard (played by
Linda Lirifield) soon got it changed.

They finally arrived and rushed in
with the homemade cookies, a treat
for the residents.
Rachel, Sarah and Carolynne Van
Slighenhorst sang accompanied by
their mother Joan. Erin Keys played
a piano solo.
Everybody enjoyed tea, cookies
and the social hour before returning
to their rooms.
Varna 4-H -
On Monday_ September 19 the
first Varna 4-H meeting was held at
the home of Vicki Wilder. The club
is "Much :Ado about Meats". They
had seven new members and their
president is Cperyl Turner, vice-
president is Julie Healy, secretary is
Julie Betties and -press reporter is.
rotated.' Mary Ellen Webster was
the first one.
They started the mecting talking
about the recipe of the week. which
was "potato skins". Congratula-
tions to their two new leaders, Janet
.Webster and Vicki Wilder, on their
first club. Next mecting is to• be
held September 26 at 7 p.m. at
Vicki Wilder's.

Rena and Clayton Gault have pur-
chased the former Broeze house in
Varna. They had a hobby farm near
Flesherton. They also have a daugh-
ter, Deanna who is a grade ten stu-
dent at C.H.C.S. Welcome to the

Last Tuesday evening friends Cec
and Jen and Bill and Mary took
Mery and Marg Hayter to the Three
Boys -Restaurant .in -Hensel °for a
surprise anniversary supper.
A surprise family dinner was held
at the Red Maplc Inn in Vanastra
Sunday night to celebrate the 40th
Wedding anniversary of Mervin and
Margaret Hayter. Gerald and Ardys
Glenn were also married 40 years
ago on September 15, 1948. Mar-
garet and Mervin's granddaughter Ja-
nine's 11th birthday was also cele-
brated, Thirty-two attended the
dinner.

will be a Bethel Bible Study Series
Presentation in Varna at 8 p.m.
Sunday, October 2 is Communion

Crediton WI begins fall meetings

CREDITON - On September 21,
the Crediton Women's Institute be-
gan their fall meetings with a
bountiful pot luck supper at Jean
eil's cottage. Witha motto of
humor, laughter and happiness.
The programme committee of Ina
Browning, Jean Neil and Vi Hendy
presented a series of readings and
games that had everyone enjoying
the fun.
During the business meeting
chaired by president Eleanor Roesz-
ler a report of the District Annual
meeting was presented by Mrs.
Ann Cottle and Mrs. Irene Haugh
reported on the Curator's Workshop
at which Fern Dougall had related
some of her experiences in putting
together the history book for Us -
borne Township.
Mrs. Dianne Finkbeiner volun-
teered to be the W.I. representative
at the Stephen Township meetings
being held in connection with the
celebration of the township's 150th
anniversary. •
Members were reminded of the
Fall Rally being held in Hensall
October 3, and the London Area
Convention being held in St.

■
Thomas, October 13 and 14. The
members noted .in support of the
motion that the W.I. branchespro-
mote and support recycling projects
in these municipalities. Another
resolution urging birdseed compa-
nies to eliminate certain weed seeds
from their birdfced was also sup -
paned
The group agreed to cater to the
Fireman's dinner Deceinber 17 and
began plans Tor the December Sen-
ior's Banquet.
®n October 18 the W.I. will at-
tend a meeting of Stephen Town=
ship Council.
An open meeting will be held
November 9 at which Joanne Rich-
ter, Waste Management Coordina-
tor for Huron County and some
members of the Waste Management
Committee will speak.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dunn, Elms -
dale, PJ3.I., returned home Tuesday -
after spending the past week with
Mr. and Mrs. Stan Preszcator. Har-
ry was Stan's army buddyr
This was their first ,trip to Onta-
rio. They enjoyed sightseeing, the
plowing match, barbecue and -dance.
Sunday we started out for Niagara
Falls but ended up with car trouble
so came home and went to the trail-
er. They enjoyed their trip and said
it was too short.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hubley,
Seaforth, called on Sian and 1 and
the Dunns' on Saturday.
Rutabaga Bowling is fun
EXETER - The rutabaga bowling
and shot put at Saturday's Exeter
Fair created a lot of fun and compe-
tition for the many entrants who
tried their hand. Secretary Gwen
Coward says "Since we failed to set
a final time of completion to tally
the winners and hand out prize
money, we shalt be doing that by
mail, etc."

live in Exeter, or you think we may
