Visiting Hugh and I last Wednes-
day and Thursday were Ross and
Isobel McDonald from Nanoose
Bay, on Vancouver Island. Wa first
met the McDonald's in 1981, on a
trip to B.C. to visit granddaughter
Persephone and family.
- Mrs. McDonald was Persephone's
kindergarten teacher then. When she
told her teacher that her father -(Bili)
and' Morenz grandparents were out
to B.C. to visit her, Mrs. McDo-
nald invited us to come to the
school.
We became good friends, and last
year visited the McDonald's at their
Island home. The McDonald's left
home around September 1 in their
motor home, travelled through vari-
ous areas of U.S. then up"to. Till-
sonburg, Gbderich and Kincardine
to visit relatives.

Through Friendship House in Gode-
rich. spoke about the purpose, phi-
lisophy and help 'provided by the
shelter for battered _ women,
throughout Huron County. Some
of the statistics Ms. Leigh quoted
were quite alarming. -One in every
eight women is abused in some
way, shape or form, whether it be
mental, physical, or sexual abuse.
She reminded us that- women de-
serve to be treated with respect, that
we are worthwhile and important
human beings. Women:are not to
blame for being beaten and abused
and we are -not the cause of anoth-
er's violent behavior. We. do not
have to take it:
There is a 24-hour telephone line
for information and crisis calls: The
shelter willprovide accommodation
and meals for a period of up to six
weeks. The home is funded by
public donations and through gov-
ernment grants.
The roll call was for members to
