Peewees win in overtime
EXETER - The soccer season
ended this weekend with final
playoffs in three age groups. Exet-
er teams wcrc very successful in
reaching thc A finals in all three
tournaments but only Exctcr Ii Pee-
Wees managed to win their A title
in overtime. In the two other divi-
sion;, Exeter teams lost in over-
time. ,
In Atom play, a very strong play-
• ingExctcr l i team defeated Ildcrton
and received a hyo into the A final.
In semi-final play, Exctcr I came up
against a very strong St. Columban
team. After taking a 1-0 lead the
team started to play too defensively
and St. Columban stormed back
with five unanswered goals for a 5-
1 win and a place in the A final
against Exctcr 11.
After a very entertaining battle
overtime had to bring a decision as
the teams wcrc tied 2-2 at thc end of
the game.
In the overtime it was St. Co -

lumhan that got the chance it need-
ed to win the game 3.2.
in PceWcc action both Exctcr
teams won their preliminary games
Exeter I won 2-1 over Lucan and
Exeter II beat Nairn 3-0. These re-
sults sct up a semi final game be-
tween Exctcr i and Exeter 11. t
Both teams met twice during the
season with each squad winning
once.
In this game the accurate shoot-
ing of Sisavay Scngkhounmany
proved to be the difference as he
scored twice - once from a direct
fret kick and once from a penalty
shot. The win set Exctcr iI up in
the A final against league champi-
ons Grand Bend.
After a hard-fought game that end-
ed in a 0-0 draw, it was again the
accuracy of Sisavay that decided the

Express claim Great Lakes title
STRATHROY - fn a classic case
of putting the cart before the horse,
Exeter Express followed their recent
provincial Senior D championship
win with the acquisition of.a league
title.
Due to scheduling, Express didn't
play their Great Lakes final series
against Strathroy until this wcck
when they swept them 2-0 in a
best -of -three sones.
.Express handed Strathroy a 10-7
loss and then followed that up with
a 12-2 rout to end thc season on a
second high note.
Dave Hayter led thc team offen-
sively in gamc.onc, turning in two
singles and a doublc_Rob Dickey
and Walt Parkinson each contribut-
ed a double and a single in thc ef-
fort.
Exctcr took a14-3 lead after the
second inning, but Strathroy tied
the game with one run in the third
and then went ahead with a three -
run fourth inning.
Exctcr recovered in the fifth,
pushing four runs Pcross the plate.
They added two more in the sixth to

Greys are South -Perth champs
ST. MARYS - Exctcr Greys
are the South -Penh Ladies Fast -
ball champions. They earned that
title Tuesd:.y night after defeat-
ing St. Marys 8-4, claiming
their third wtdand clinching the
hest -of -five series 3-1.
East week, St: Marys pulled a
2.1 victory out their hats to
push the series to four games
and bring the play back to home
turf, but Exeter neutralized the
home field advantage to. :laim
the title.
Greys built a 5-1 lead by the
end of the third inning and added
one run in the fifth and two
more in the seventh to counter a
three run rally by St. Marys.
Elaine Gould and Heidi Elliott
crossed the plate in the second
Inning ,after capitalizing on a •
fielder's choice and a single by
Tess Nethcry.
Sandra Burns got on base with
a single in the second, then came
hbme on an error which allowed
Gould to advance to fust. A sin-
gle by Bonnie Caldwell pushed
Gould and Elliott home after St.
Marys loaded • the bases with
walks.
Nethery singled in the fifth to
score Alice Dietrich. A home
run •by Dianne McCuaig in the
Seventh scored Dietrich for some
insurance:
Patty Down pitched the entire
game for Exeter, striking out six
batters and allowing 10 hits. She
walked five opponents.

Doig wins
Eighty-seven golfers crowded thc
fairways to compete for top hon-
ours at Ironwood Invitational Golf
Tournament held at ironwood Satur-
day.
The excellent playing conditions
and difficult pin placements- made
by greens keeper Don Gifford made
play very challenging.
Cam Doig of Scafortt turned in
the winningscore of 71. Doig
scored a "36 ront nine and 35 second
nine. He also won the longest drive
which was on or about 320 yards.
Steve Pearce recorded close second.
Don Cowan ur Exctcr was also a
bis winner. He" placed his tee -off
shot on Numbcr seven hole 12
inches from the pin and this effort
gave him one week's accommoda-
tion in Porta Plata, compliments of
Plcasc turn to page 3A

EXETER - Friday and Saturday
South Huron hosted their Annual
Senior Girls invitational Basketball
Tournament. Terry O'Rourke,
coach of South Huron's senior girls
team, organized the tournament and
accepted entries from seven schools
in the arca.
unfortunately, O'Rourke received
word on Thursday that Sarnia St.-
Clair would be a last minute with-
drawal. With such short notice
O'Rourke was unable to locate an-
other team to replace -Sarnia and de-
cided to use his own team •as the re- .
placement. This meant that South
Huron would be playing two games
back to hack on Friday evening.
South Huron's first opponent was.
Parkhill.• -The locals played -effec-
tively in the first half and came up
only three points behind at' half
lime. But in the second half. Park-
hill widened the gap and won 38 -
