BEND The Grand Bend Golden Ages Club met - Wednesday afternoon at St._ John's Anglican Hall with 27 in atten- dance. President Lorecn Gill opened the meeting. A moment of silence was observed for deceased member Doris Pearen. A singalong was enjoyed, ac- companied by Nola Love at the pia- no. Loreen read two poems. Plans were discussed to have a pot luck dinner and a speaker at the October meeting. A bus trip. is being planned to the African Lion Safari on October 6. Another bus trip is planned for September 21, to the" Plowing Match near Stratford. The bus will be leaving from St. John's Anglican Church at 8 a.m. sharp, and leaving from the Plowing Match: at 4 p.m. • If you are interested, please phone Bertie Keyes, 238-2486, before Sep- tember 16. It was also decided to participate in the Farmer's Market on October 15 here in Grand Bend. GRAND BEND - September 7 marked the First Grand. Bend and Vegetable Growers Golf Tourna- ment, held at Oakwood Inn.. There - were 40. golfers out to start the course at 1 p.m., organized by Tom Vlcmmix; Winner of the First Prize Trophy •I'or the best 18 holes.with a score of 82 was Tom Carruthers of.Thedford, who also won the longest shot of _ the day. Second prize trophy for the best 9 holes with a score of 34 was Dan MacLaughlin of Thcdford. Jack Smcckcns of Grand Bcnd won a prize for the closest to the pin. Shunning the use of a golf bug- gy, Bill Blewett, the .old Co-op manager, finished the course on foot - not bad- for a gentleman who•is 80 years young! Church of God The Women of the Church of God met on Thursday, September 8 for their first general meeting of the season. The ladies began a series of lessons of the nation of Russia, with Janet Desjardine as moderator. Roll call was answered with a cur rent event about Russia. The Octo- ber 6 meeting will be a dinner tour at ARC Industries, Dashwood. On Monday evening the Beacon- naires met with Rev. Brian Elder of Crediton United Church as guest speaker. Sunday services arc regularly. held at the. Grand Bend Church. of God, with Sunday school beginning at 10 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. - Next Sunday, September 18 will he an exception, for Rally Day, with the morning service beginning at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Mr. Keith Lapslcy of Scrip- ture Union, Canada. Mr. Lapsley was involved with the Beach Minis- .triQs„ih August, which were so sue- ccssful. There.will also be a special presentation for children at.the ser- vice, and a pot luck dinner follow- ing.
