Times-Advocate, 1988-09-14, Page 8Page 8 Times -Advocate, September 14, 1988 Another good year in Hensall construction HENSALL - The village of Hen - 'sail is experiencing yet another boom year in construction as the total value of building permits is- sued this year exceeded S1 million before September. Budding inspector Herman Van- Wieren added that last year's figures have_becn surpassed, but even if in- flation is taken into account, it still means another impressive year for Hensalls development. The 'Three Boys Restaurant on Highway 4 in Hensall has yet to re- ceive a liquor license, and cannot do so until it meets with regulations on the building code and zoning by- laws. VanWieren noted the code re- quires a wheelchair access ramp and the Hensall bylaw requires a hedge or fence be erected to separate the commercially -zoned restaurant from a neighboring residential property. Councillor Irene Davis wondered if the restaurant's owner could be petitioned to remain open on Sun- days' to encourage more Sunday .traffic. Other councillors surmised that the restaurant might open if de- mand warranted it. Peter Groot observed that many restaurants have difficulty finding employees to work the extra shifts. Council will -send a letter of -con- cern to the ministry of the Solicitor. General expressing disappointment that the position of Fire Services Advisor will not be filled following the resignation of Bob Beckett. Councillor and fire chief Butch Hoffman said he- found working with the advisor a better experience than what he now faces. - "Now you have to go to Toronto where it's like talking to a door in most cases," said Hoffman. Council agreed the letter asking for the position to be filled was the best action for Hensall to take. "You may not get any place with it," said councillor Cecil Pepper, "but it won't hurt to try." Hensall will not join in with the United Nation's call to declare Octo- ber 16 World Food Day. Reeve Jim Robinson said he did not think the declaration would help put bread on anyone's table. "It's just a thing you do, he said, "and it doesn't mean a thing. It's just a gesture." Plans by Crime Stoppers of Hu- ron County to focus attention on their programs in the last week of October will be supported by Hen- sall as Crime Stoppers Week.
