entire day in town, rather than just
stopping at the museum on their
way through, he explained, encour-

Lucan briefs.
Council welcomed the visits of
the principals •of Lucan Public
School and Biddulph Public School
to Tuesday's meeting. Arnold Hall
noted his Biddulph School is start-
ing a computer education program
and Gerry Adlington's Lucan
School is commencing. its French
immersion program with grade one
- this year.
Lucan will send a letter of con-
gratulation to the Town of West-
minster on. their becoming a town
last week. Reeve Norm Steeper
noted Westrinnstcr.contributes 16
percent of Middlesex County's bud-
get, rnuch of which would have to
be allocated to other municipalities
if London were to succeed in.its bid
for annexation.
Lucan has given its support to
Middlesex's plan for County -Wide
Reassessment. Council noted the
restructuring would likely have
little effect on Lucan's ratepayers.
*****
The community centre roof is in
need of repair and Lucan's share is
roughly S18,000, but after 'grants
are deducted, only S2,46() is expect-
ed to be over the amount budgeted
for repairs this year.

Jail admissions up
Although admissions to the Hu-
ron Historic Jail are still not as
high as they were two years ago,
they have recovered slightly' from
last year's drop.
Tours consisting of over 20 peo-
ple are provided with a museum
guide, but individuals are given
brochures so they can conduct self -
guided tours.
The Huron Historic Jail's flea
market, -held each Sunday from Vic-
toria Day weekend until Labour
Day weekend, attracts many visi-
tors. In addition to drawing some.
attention to the jail, the weekly
market brings in a bit of income,
Erb said.
Operating with a staff of nine
people this season, seven were stu-
dents hired for the summer under a
government grant program, many
of whore are returning to school
this week.
Sorne attractions inside the jail
include the Victorian era jail gov-
ernor's house, four cell blocks con-
sisting of three cells in each, the
jail's medical room which was used
as the town hospital prior to the es-
tablishment of a separate hospital,
pi isoners', exerc ise,'ards, and pieces
of furniture and other artifacts
which remain from early prisoners. -
