This could be a'resuit of the droughty weather this summer. Corn plants arc generally smaller 'and the nitrogen is concentrated in a smaller area. Many farmers are familiar with silo gas being formed at silo fill- ing. Some have not experienced the odour or the characteristic yel- low-brown colour. All farmers should regard the silo filling opera- tion as a silo gas risk. Staying out of the silo until the ensilage process is complete and gases have dissipated is the main precaution: Enclosed .areas such as feed rooms a1. the base of the silo should be well ventilated. Safety of livestock should not be overlooked as silo gases can 'flow into livestock areas of adjacent barns. It's recommended that farmers vis- it their family doctor when silo gas- es have been inhaled for even brief periods. Anniversary celebrated by Thames Road couple By MRS.
