Who could get mad at Lynne Far
quharl4 or he's getting pumped up
for -the big event this weekend.
Atthill is a member of the Exeter
Express, hosts of the 19813 Senior
1) Ontario Championship baseball
tournament which is going to be
held in town this -weekend.
The -competing teams have -now
been announced- with challengers
coming. from-Courtright,- -Everett,.
Wheatley, Carnpbclivillc, Wals-
ingham, Timmins and Little Brit-
ain, but calibre is an unknown
quantity in many cases.. -
"Wc haven't seen that many of
the teams so it's -mainly based on -
what we saw: last year," Express
manager -:Joe Fulop .told me Mon-
day: -
They -arc familiar1with Cambcll-
ville, though. Exeter beat the -Es=
sex County team two years -ago in
the Senior .D final after the two
clubs. battled it -out in extra in-
nings. -
But because of the structure of
Senior bascbal! in the arca, that
championship win put- Express in
the C division last year. where,:
over their heads, they- were knocked
out before they got to the tourna-
ready
meta.
• "We thought we should have a
chance to defend the title and then
if.wc were-to_win again, we'd go
up (to C) automatically,. but that's
not the way it went," Fulop-said.
Back in the D divisipn this sea-
-son, Exeter has a good idea of
:what to expect from Campblc-.

...Competition 'promises to be
even tougher this year because the_
tournament.has moved from a six -
team format loan eight -team for-
mat. That will put more pressure
on the pitching staff but die Exet-
er club will receive a shot in the
arm if ace pitcher Jeff Fuller is
able to perform on the weekend.
Steve Pearce, who is considered
to be their second ace, may also be -
in the -line-up. A sore shoulder
kept, Pearce down last year and •pout
of this season. Fulop says he's not
in:top form yet, but Ire's coming
around.
Express will also benefit from
the strong arm of Davc Shaw. A
heavy hitter, Shaw will be leaving
for training carnp with New York
. Rangers • the day after the tourna-
ment. •
With those players in the line •
-
up, Express will have a sturdy
team on the field this weekend.
Fulop is looking forward to a
good tournament. -
"We have most of the team that
we had two years ago, so we think_
we have a pretty good chance."
