.AILSA CRAIG - There arc all
kinds of ways to feel special, but
surely one of the nicest is to. be
-given a corsage! Flowers are so spe-
cial, aren't they? Who should know
that better than a florist? Elaine
Holt sure docs; •
She came to demonstrate flower
arranging for us. After making two •
lovely arrangements, she finished
her demonstration by making a cor-
sage for each of us, so we all felt -
extra -special for the day:
. National Ice Cream week was cel-
ebrated with-Make_YQt1t;gwn-Sun-
dares with_enough toppings to blow
the diets sky-high! It was fun
though,
Helen Loft thrilled us with her
pictures of Switzerland and Austria.
Some of us with weaker stomachs
almost had to -hold on to our.chairs
as we caught the views she captured
-while descending in the cable car
from the mountain top!
Gpod news has come with the
confinnation that our New I-lori-
zons Grant has been approved: Al-
though we don't have the actual
cheque in hand yet, we're already
looking forward to the equipment
that will allow us to do ceramics.
We hope that will all be in place by
early fall.
Meanwhile, we do not remain
craftless! Our bread dough ah looks
quite lovely mounted on wicker and
enhanced with a few. silk flowers
and ribbons.
Childhood days and ways returned
quite naturally when we turned our
hands to playing in the Banti. - In
the process, we made some quite in-
teresting sand castles that could add
a lovely accent to a roonr-or create a
romantic mood on a winter's night:
Bct you can't wait until our bazaar
is announced!
Our latest outing was a grand
tour of the Shady Pines Cramp=
ground with Mrs. Schlegel as tour -
-guide, after which we enjoyed iccd
tea and cookies in the pavilion.
A great calendar has been planned
for August with enough ideas left
to start on September, so why don't

Student exchange
EXETER _ A couple of Exctcr
Public School students recently
participated in a Society for Educa-
tion, Visits and Exchanges in Can-
ada exchange with their counter-
parts in Quebec.
The following - brief- resumes
were written by Annie Lefevbre of
Amos, Quebec and Melanie Phil-
lips of Exeter concerning their vis-
its to the home of the other.

By Annie Lefevbre
The first time I heard about SE-
VEC was about two years ago on
television.
The school did not play a big
•part in the selection, but my teach-
er did the interview and thc princi-
pal signed the necessary papers.
SEVEC did a great job because I
was marvelously twinned with
Melanie Phillips. Exctcr is a beau-
tiful little town whcrc the new
homcs arc modern and beautiful,
too. The old homes arc charming.
English is easier to speak- than I
at first thought. French people
spcak quickly and 1 did have some
`trouble understrulding
1 did however, improve by coming
here. Mclanic's friends arc nice and
funny.
I recommend the-SEVEC ex-
change for all young Canadiap,
students who wish to' improve
their Frcnch and discover tht we
the Quebecois like to meet our
neighbours from other provinces.
Thank you Melanie and family
for a great time.

Although it was an 11. hour drive
to Amos in Quebec, 1 couldn't wait
to meet Annie Lefevbre. We final-
ly got there and we both didn't
know what to say. We did manage
to say "Eli".
Living in a French community
was hard. Annie could speak very
good English and so could her

mothcr.When the family and l
would go- to a museum or some-
thing, 1 would have to listen tare -
fully as the French speak so fast.
1 would only catch•a word here
and there. Annic's father would try
-and- translate for me,. but some-
times 1 couldn't understand him in
English.
Amos is a mining community
out in the middle of no -where.
1 didn't know what the French
people wcrc saying about me, but
they wcrc all friendly. •
Some .things arc different. In
Quebec you don't have to wcar scat
belts in the track scat of a car.
1 would recommend SEVEC to
anyone wanting to learn some
French or just want to experience
living in a diffcrcnt community.
