Snowy Mountains." .
Talking about kangaroos in his
honic.state, Johnston said; " There
are 25 million of them. Although
they are sort of our national sym-

Some of the kangaroo meat. is
exported to West Germany where
it is considered a gourmet food.
The meat is low fat and non cho-

Was intrigued by the smaller farms
and dairy herds. He went on to say,
I find your dairy herds of about

Plan Conservation Day
August 11 at Lobb farm
CLINTON - Farmers interested in
maintaining the long-term produc-
tivity of their soil should plan to
attend Conservation Day, Thursday
August 11, on` the farm of Murray
and Roba Lobb, near Holmesville. -
the 1as' 10 years. Murray began, us-
ing no -till planting techniques five
years ago as a time saving measure.
- Since that time- he has noted many
other benefits with the no -till ap-
proach including a energy savings,
a smaller inventory of equipment,
and most importantly a reduction in
soil erosion. All 130 acres of the
Lob& farm arc now plantedusing
no -till. -
Other practices are also used to
reduce soil erosion. Grassed water-
. ways -and broad based terraces with
drop inlets have been installed to
reduce erosion caused by surface
water runoff. A windbreak has also
bean planted along the entire south
side of the -farm. -
A number of trials can also be
viewed on the farm including soyb-
can varieties, herbicide reduction
and corp residue trials and a tillage
2000 site.
Tours.of the Lobbfarm will be
run throughout the day beginning
at =10:00 a.m. -
Admission to the site is free.
Lunch is being provided by Ciba- _

The Lobb farm is located 2 -miles
north of Holmesville. Watch for -
the 'Conservation Day' signs.
- This annual event, sponsored by
the Iluron Soil and Water Conser-
vation District, is an ideal opportu-
nity.to gain information from farm-

conscr ation practices.
The theme of this years event is
'The Systems Approach to Farin-
land Stewardship'. Guided tours of
the Lobb farm will allow visitors.
to sec a wide -range of conservation
farm practices and to learn how
these work together as a complete
'system'.
- During lunch hour, two guest
speakers will address the 'systems'
approach -to stewardship; Karen -
Switzer -Howse; a Soil and Water
Conservation Specialist with Agri-
culture Canada, and President of the
Ontario Chapter of the Soil and
