COOL, MAN - A group o1 youngsters posed for the camera during "Cool Dude Day" at the Exeter swimming pool.
Return from camping trip
Marg and Ivan McClymont have
returned from a 10 day camping trip
to Manitoba. They left home on
Sunday, June 28, travelled across to
western Michigan and followed the
lake Michigan shore up to Traverse
City where the most extensive sour
cherry orchards in North America
are located. The growers were quite
concerned about thc effects of the
dry weather on the crop. They drove
across northern Michigan, Wiscon-
sin, Minnesota and North Dakota,
entering 'Manitoba at the Interna-
tional Peace Gardens on the Dakota-
Nlanitoba border just south of Bois-
savain.
Al[areas were suffering- from lack
of rain though corn and bean crops
in western Minn. and eastern North
Dakota were much betterthan here
at home. As thcy went west in Da-
kota and into Manitoba it became
much drier and grain crops wcrc
heading out even though only about
four inches high.
They visited cousins Lcs and
Anna Grace Diehl- at Boissavain,
whose son Michael has a summer
job for the 3rd year at the customs
post at the border crossing. He had
many humorous stories to tell of
U.S. citiicns with misconceptions
of the site of Canada. One couple
crossing with a trailer expected to
have lunch in Regina or Edmonton

After a pancake breakfast, the
families attended the Crypress River
United Church in a group. A Diehl
choir was formed and after a short
practice Sunday morning sang at
the service.
Ivan had obtained the old Diehl
family Bible from his father and
taken it to the reunion. It was
placed on thc pulpit and the lesson
was read by Ivan, and Janis Diehl of
Winnipeg. Alden Diehl, who has a
couple of recordings to his credit,
sang Thc Lord's Praycr. Thc Dichls
have always been noted as great
singers and the late Mrs. Charles
H. Diehl was one of 24 Canadians
selected bySirErnest McMillan to
sing in the choir for the coronation
of King Gcorge VI and Queen Eliz-
abcth.
After church, a visit was made to
the Jacob Diehl Sr. homestead
south of town. After lunch the
McClymonts left for home via
Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, ,Sault.
Ste. Marie and Detroit where they
met an Australian friend, David
Rodaughan. David stayed with
them the rest of the week.
On Friday, they took him to sec
Niagara Falls and he left for a tour
of the cast coast from Toronto on
Saturday. Marg and Ivan spent a
couple of nights with ivan's sister,
Margaret - Robinson and rcturncd

joyable though hectic two weeks.
They arc now preparing for the
annual gathering of book collectors
interested in the works and life of

Not that it really matters to me!

Guaranteed to help but not to con-
fuse.

lunch,. •
So bring pot -luck to share with
our bunch.
The name of an Indian tribe you'll

There' a clue to wee your mind.

And creative people will have loft.

Years ago we would stoke the fire,
And sometimes use ashes under a
tire.
Are any of these clues planting a
sax, )
-Or is your mind stili in need?
•
You will likely w• ish • to spend
some cash,
That doesn't mean through a mall .
you'll dash!
But you might stock -your pantry
with something tasty,
Preparing a meal is sometimes
quite hasty!
These clues may seem somewhat
grim,
But your day -will be filled right to
the brim.
With information from which. you
will learn, -
And probably a desire to someday
. return. •
