GRAND BEND - Father Paul
Beck, pastor of immaculate Heart
of Mary Church, was celebrant at
all Masses over the weekend. The
choir, under the direction of De-
lores Tighe, performed at the 7:15
p.m. Mass on Saturday evening. •
Reader -for the 11 a.m. Mass on
Sunday was. Billy Spindler, who
was also Eucharistic Minister, to:
gether with Philip Walker. Paul
Dietrich was organist at the Mass,
accompanying Roberta Walker in a
Communion Solo, "Ten Lepers".
During the course of the service,
7oshua-Norbert Hoffman and Za-
chary Robert 1 loffnian, infant twin
sons of Kevin and Laurie Hoffman,
were received into the Catholic
Cuinmunity through baptism.
The thence of Father Beck's ser-
mon was on baptism. Baptism is
an invitation hV God to walk hand
in hand through life with Flim.
On Stinday afternoon, Rebecca
Nlaric \Vi1I ie, infant daughter of
Douglas and Janet \Villsie, was
also received into the Catholic
Contniunity through baptism. •
Wedding bells (almost) rang over
the weekend as -well, On Friday,
David Kinsman and Patricia Ann
McCann were- united in Holy Mat-
rimony. Saturday marked the wed-
ding day of Richard Vccns and Car-'

GRAND BEND - Sweltering tern-

The local people have fond mcm-
orics of the charming shop, full of
lovely gifts and decorations all year
round. Local kids will remember it
as the best stop on their Halloween
rounds, with grinning jack -o -
lanterns and -shrieking ghosts around
the door. -
Good luck tit the new owners, and
a fond farewell -to the.old propriet-
ors, Chris and Davc Melndoe.

Winncrs of the Friday Meat Raffle
were Janet Chambers, Dave Burke,
Bill Armstrong, Davc Tate and Ev
Cowing. Dusty Miller won the
door prize.
July 23 marks -the Grand Opening
for the new Legion facilities, and
they will celebrate the occasion
with a steak dinner and a dance.
The steak barbecue will be on from

South Beach returns

came to Grand Bcnd Council Tucs-
day night to remind the Village
that the South Beach had returned. •
The beach, south of the govern-
nient pier, had more or less disap-
pearcd.in recent )'cars due to high
water in lake I luron, but low wa-
ter Ng' season has added` several

to alert the Village Of the situa- -
tion. Ile provided a long list of
problems on the beach, among
them: a lack of police enforcement:
no garbage- cans: noise from jet
drinking on the teach: dogs
on the beach. .
Pullen said there secrris to be an
emphasis on the -North Beach in the
Village. Ile requested lifeguards and
cleaning patrols -as • well 'as• police
patrols. Pullen also _requested signs
he posted informing beach -goers of
the riles and regulations.
Council acknowledged thc over-

uation. jlowevcr, a request for the
maintenance of the beach access was
turned down as the Village lawyer
advised them that they could be
able in the case of -an accident. The
access is a natural one and should be

Acquires bell
Speaking of wedding bells, Fa-
ther -Beck has managed to obtain a
beautiful large .brass hell for the
church, thanks to the help of some
parishioners. As sot,n as the nc-
cessary equipment is installed,
..there will be a bell to ring at wed-
dings arid all other occasions. The
church windiw fund is also grow-
ing sloe 1v, but steadily. Many
thanks to all contributors.
Bazaar
The annual CWL Bazaar is com-,
ing up on. July 30, for 9_ a.m. to 3
p:m. Please bring any craft or ga-
rage sale items to thc church on Fri-
day, July 29, between 6 and 9 p.m.,
or phone 238-8396. • .
There will he tickets available
for a draw on a child's bicycle: bak-
ing!, crafts, garage sales, penny
tables, fresh vegetables; a fishpond,
refreshments, and_ much more.

A good number of worshippers at-
tended the second outdoor service at
the brand Bcnd .United Church on
Sunday. Special music was provid-
ed by Heather and Jayne Westlake of
Zurich, playing musical ducts on
their violins.- Rev. Ted Smits ser-
mon topic was taken from Isaiah
40:31 "But those who hope in the
Lord will renew their strength; they
willwalk, not faint".
Coffee, Kool-Aid and cookies
