KIRKTON - It was family fun
day/at the Kirkton area farm of Da-
vid aiid Loralee Nlarshytlt on Friday.
More than 20() members of the
lltiron County Holstein Associa- •
tion enjoyed activities for all ages
of their families.The Huron Hol-
stein group was originally orga-
nised in 1938 with Ross Marshall
as.one of the enthusiastic Holstein
breeders.

producers for Grade A large eggs

servation Day on Thursday, Au-
• gust 1 I , 1988 on the farm of Mur-
ray Lobh, near Holmcsvillc.
For farmers interested in main-
, twining the long-term productivity
of their soil, this day k an ideal
opportunity to gain information

conservation practices.
'The theme of this year's event
• will be the 'Systems" approach to
farm stewardship., Visitors will
. have a chance to look at the com-
plete conservation farm system
from tillage and cropping tech-
niques through to the construction
of water management structures.
Tours of the Lohh farm will he
run throughout the day beginning
at 10:00 a..m. The :Lobb farm is
located two miles north of
Holmcsvillc on -the -Mainland
Concession, Godcrich Township.

vation equipment, variety trials,
herbicide trials and a look at the
long-term effect of no -till on the
toil.
The tour will be an excellent op-
portunity to express your opinions
and concerns with conservation
farming systems •and to obtain
some ideas as to how to overcome
problems you may have had this
past cropping year.

Approve grant
for Stephen
TORONTO - The township of
Stephen is.cligiblc for a provincial
grant for a water works project,
Environment Minister Jirn Bradley
and Jack Riddctj, N11'1' for Iluron,
announced today. •
1hc'grant-is estimated at 33.33
percent of the total cligiblc cost of
piopused construction of water -
main extension~ of Highway 83,
C'onecssions 8/9, and 10/11.
The decision on eligibility_ is
based on preliminary information
available. On completion of pre-
paratory work and cost estimates,
the ;Ministry of the Environment
will he able to consider the com-
mitment of funding.
Grand -Bend, the farm has been tak-
en over by•son David who is con-
tinuing in his father's footsteps
with an excellent purebred herd of
about 40 cows.
The day began with judging of a.
cow class followed by a discussion
of merchandising heifers. Contest-
ants _were to decide which three of
six• heifers were to be disposed of
and which trio -to keep as breeding
stock.

Brothers and Shirley. A couple of
the songs were specially written to
fit in with• I lolsteins and milk.
