identify exceptional midget players viho show outstan-
ding playing abilities in hockey and who may qualify
for the CAHA under 18 camp and Canadian Olympic

The program consists of three days ' of intense
teaching on the ice as well as classroom lecturing on
various phases of the game of hockey.
Instruction is being provided by the best OHA, OMHA
and university coaches available who have excelled in
their field.
Makes Ontario team
Two members of the South Huron District High School
senior girls basketball team have been selected to per-
form for the Southwestern Ontario regional basketball
team at the Ontario Summer Games set for Sudbury
September 2 to 5.
Grade 12 student Faye Gaiser of Dashwood was one
of only 10 girls named to the team and the coach is
SHDHS coach of a number of athletic teams Terry
O'Rourke.
Faye was one of 50 girls chosen for the final tryouts
in London and was very impressive and was almost an
unanimous choice of the coaches who had a say in the
selections.
In preparation for the Ontario Games in Sudbury in
September, an intensive week of practice for all six On-
tario regional teams will be held July 17 to 23 at
Waterloo University.
John Mol of the South Huron senior boys Panthers
was chosen as an alternate for the regional boys team
and will be called up to play if one of the first 10 chosen
are injured or unable to participate.

It's circus time
Area youngsters and some of us not so young will have
a chance to see the circus this week. Yes, actually two
chances.
The Martin and Downs Circus will be in Grand Bend
Thursday night and in Exeter Friday night.
The twn performances in Grand Bend are being spon-
sored by the Grand Bend fire department and in Ex-
eter the sponsoring group is the South Huron Rec
Centre.
While the actual circus shows take place at 6 and 8:15
p.m. visitors are welcome during the day to watch the
tents being put into place and the animals being fed.
A basic coach
The 1983-84 edition of the Minnesota North Stars
should be well versed in basics and hockey fundamen-
tals when they take to the NHL ice this fall.
Their new coach is Bill Mahoney, one of the original
organizers of the Huron Hockey School at Huron Park
some 12 years ago. At that time Mahoney was a coach
and physical education instructor at McMaster Univer-
sity in Hamilton.
Since that time, Bill who is a stickler for detail and
fundamentals has been an assistant coach with head
coach Gary Green with the Washington Capitals and
head coach of the Adirondack Red Wings in the
American league.
Mahoney has been one of the reasons NHL clubs have
sent a lot of professionals to the local hockey school.
The other original at Huron hockey school was Ron
Mason who is now coach at Michigan State.
Best of luck to Bill Mahoney in his new post come
September.

Hern's groundout and stole

Soccer Bombers
defeat Denfield
The third game of the
season for the Exeter
Bombers against Denfield
found two well matched
teams and lots of excitement
as the Bombers won 2-0.
The first half of the game
Steven Farquhar scored the
first goal on a penalty kick. A
terrific attempt at a goal by
Mark Britnell and a long pass
from Derek Beckett failed to
get past the Denfield goalie.
An exciting beginning to the
second half with a stop on
Bombers goal by Derek
Beckett who dominated the
second half with his terrific
fast foot work and continual
end to end running.

displayed good running and
passing. Good even playing
by both teams in the first half

score.
The second half was slow to
start but the last eight
minutes produced the only
two goals. Derek Beckett
came out of a huddle to score
the first goal assisted by
Daniel Spears.
With three minutes to play
a penalty kick was taken by
Steven Farquhar which went
high overhead of the little

in the second goal and
another 2-0 win for Exeter.
