Registration is from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is free to any person wishing to put a pet in show. There is ample seating in front of the stage for spectators to watch the parade which starts at 12:30, followed by the judging of the pets. The pets will be competing for the most obedient, most unique, smallest, largest, best purebred, most intelligent and the pet most resembling his or her master. Bring your pet to the arena. The pet can be anything from a field mouse to an elephant. For more information contact Gerry Rader 236-4969 or after 5 at 236-4039. The Lions club held their last meeting for the summer at the Bayview Tavern on the Blue Water highway last Saturday night in the form of a dinner. They were accom- panied by their wives. The club will again donate some money to the children's department at the fair on Ju- ly 16th. And will also support the playground program this summer. The club will once again have a booth at the Bean Festival, August 27. Some of the Lions will be playing in the slo-pitch tour- nament in Vanastra on June 25. This was the last meeting for Bob Evans as president. The new president will be Doug O'Brien. A good time was had by all at the 50's dance at the arena on Saturday night. Lots of prizes were handed out for different contests such as bubble gum blowing, and best dressed in that era. ENGAGEMENT - Mr. and Mrs, Ray Rosenberg are pleased to announce the forthcomingimarriageoftheir youngest daughter Betty Donna Maria to Derrick Richard Gaston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Vandergunst. The wedding will take place on Saturday June 25, 1983, at Mount Carmel Church at 3:00 p.m. Open reception to follow in Exeter. Lions donate to fair, playground be highlight of Saturday's Zurich -Hay flea market The minor athletic associa- tion will be holding a 50's and 60's dance in the Zurich arena on the roller skating surface with two live bands playing on Saturday, July 23. Tickets are now available from Mary LaPorte at 236-4198 or any member of the association and at the Zurich flea market on Saturdays. Advance tickets only. Fifteen dollars each includes a hot meal. David Hess' from Woodstock spent the weekend with his grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Hess. Margaret recently attended the 25th an- niversary celebration of his parents, Bill and Audrey Hess, in Woodstock. Personals Mrs. PhilipaSteckle accom- panied by Mrs. Seleda Steckle returned home on Friday, after spending several days with family, friends in the Listowel and Elmira areas. Grade seven and eight pupils from St. Boniface and Ecole Ste. Marie schools made an all day retreat at St. Peter's Catholic Church last Tuesday under the direction of Fr. Janson and Fr. Bensette. They were treated to hot dogs and pop for lunch. Last Friday, nine senior citizens from town joined a bus load from the Grand Cove Estates, Grand Bend, for an enjoyable ride to Windsor where they toured through Hiram Walker's and CBET TV station (formerly was CKSL). They came back home through the states, crossing over at Sarnia. On Monday, June 20, several seniors went by bus to the Petrolia Oil museum and then on a St. Clair River boat cruise and luncheon, which was really nice and enjoyed by alt who went. Cheryl Stephenson received her diploma; Daid Rathwell, 3rd year seal; Brian hill and Mark Webster, 4th year seals, and Mary Ellen Webster, 6th year seal. In the Junior class, Sandra Coultis received her 2nd and 3rd year seals: Shelly Stephenson, diploma; Susan Kirton and Paul Hilf, 6th year seals, and Krista McAsli, 7th year seal. Lee Norman of the Senior Class received his :3rd year seal; Scott Kirton, his 6th, and Darryn McAsh his 9th. Other students_ received awards earlier in the year. Superintendent Joe Laurie made the announcements and thanked the teaching staff. Ile was assisted by • alternate superintendent Doug Reid and the teachers in presenting awards. Nancy Webster led the call to worship and gave the open- ing prayer. Scott Kirton read the scripture lesson from Ephesians h, and Robyn Nor- man led in the responsive rending. The Rev. Miss Brown told the children the old story, "The Women in Wood". An enjoyable program of violin and piano music, accor- dion music and piano solos was very much enjoyed. Gifts were provided, courtesy of the Ladies Aux- iliary of the Home. Following the programnte, a delicious lunch was enjoyed. On Tuesday evening, the 18th annual meeting of the Home was held. There were no changes made in the Board of Directors for the coming year. At the close of the meeting, refreshments were served by the ladies of the Auxiliary. The sympathy of residents and staff is extend- ed to the family of the late Mr. Amos Gascho. Residents who have been out visiting during the week are Mrs. Vera Brintnell, Mrs. Verna Truemner and Mrs. Alice Wcbb. Bingo was played on Friday evening, followed by refreshments. These relatives are spending two and a half weeks in Canada. The United Church Sunday service for the month of July will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be held outside on the lawn. Everyone is asked to bring their own lawn chairs with them. Mrs. Juliette Denomine returned home last Thursday after being away for two weeks visiting with some of her family in Detroit and Lon- don. While away she attend- ed the 50th anniversary par- ty of Agnes and Vincent Jef- frey in Detroit on June 12. Butch and Marion Sweeney, Vanastra, and Jerome and Carmel Sweeney, Zurich attended the wedding reception of cousin, Francis Sweeney and Susan Wilson in Watford last Saturday. Mr. Ambrose Denomme of Kitchener is presently spen- ding a week's vacation with his mother, Mrs. Juliette Denomme and other relatives 1 in the area. Ladies of the CWL from St. Boniface parish held their June meeting on Tuesday, following mass for vocations. Plans were made for the chicken barbeque that is com- ing up on Sunday, July 3. She was accom- panied by Mr. and Mrs. Ber- nard Sweeney and family of Durham, Ontario. Sympathy is e;cpressed to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Geof- frey in the death of her new little grandson who was born to daughter Mary Ann and Jim Vanos last week in Toron- to. And to the relatives of the late Amos tiascho who pass- ed away last week. Several from town went by bus to the Huron Country playhouse on Tuesday to see On Golden Pond, which was enjoyed by all. A lovely bridal shower was held for Sharon Jacobe last Friday evening at the United Church. Sharon was presented with many beautiful gifts, followed by a nice lunch. Mrs. Luella Willert return- ed home after a months holi- day in Alberta visiting with sons, Carl and Edgar and families. Today, June 22, grade three students and two from Zurich Public School along with those from Hullett Cen- tral Pubhc School went to the Royal Ontario Musehm in Toronto. Lester and Arlene Denomme of Trochu, Alberta spent a week visiting with his mother, Mrs. Florence Denomme recently and all at- tended the wedding of a niece and granddaughter, Rhonda Denomme in Kitchener on June 11 (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Denomme. They also visited with friends and relatives in C'hesley while here. Neil and Mary Ellen Skin- ner from Edmonton, Alberta are presently spending 10 days with her parents, Neil and Gladys Gingerich.
